Where to Stay in Hammersmith, Fulham & Chiswick: The Best Hotels in West London (2026)

The 29 west London hotels I'd book, grouped by patch from Hammersmith out to Ealing, each with its nearest station, the Tube time to Piccadilly Circus, a dated rate and one honest catch.

Where to stay in west London Hammersmith, Fulham, Chiswick and a straight line into town

Stay in west London if you want more hotel for your money than Zone 1 and a quick, direct line into the centre. Hammersmith is about 17 minutes from Piccadilly Circus on the Piccadilly line, which also runs straight to Heathrow; Shepherd's Bush has the Central line to Oxford Circus; Ealing has the Elizabeth line. It's also where you'll want to be for a gig at the Eventim Apollo, a show at Olympia, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge or a day at Westfield. Skip it if you want to walk home from the West End theatres. My short answer: the Premier Inn on Shepherds Bush Road for a gig or an early Heathrow run, the W14 Hotel on a budget, the Hoxton for style, St Paul's Hotel for history, the Stamford Bridge Hotel for Chelsea, Second Nature Chiswick for a longer stay and the Drayton Court in Ealing for a night before a flight. To compare west London with the central areas first, start with the where to stay in London guide.

The page runs from the centre outwards in six patches: Hammersmith, Shepherd's Bush and White City, Olympia and West Kensington, Fulham, Chiswick and Ealing. Every hotel has its nearest subway (the Tube) station and line, Google's walking minutes to it, the Tube time from there to Piccadilly Circus from TfL's Journey Planner (10am on a Tuesday), the walk to the Apollo, Olympia, Stamford Bridge or Westfield where that's the point, its Google rating, a dated price, one real drawback and a room tip. Earl's Court, just east of West Kensington, is in the Kensington hotels guide, and Holland Park and Portobello Road, north-east of Shepherd's Bush, are in the Notting Hill hotels guide.

About the prices: each is the cheapest room type for two adults on the same ordinary night, Tuesday 10 November 2026, on the hotel's own booking site or, where the card says so, Booking.com, at the total price shown (UK consumer prices include 20 per cent VAT, and London has no tourist tax yet). Where the cheapest room shares a bathroom or has no window, the card says so and gives the next one up where one was on sale. Many of the cheapest rates are non-refundable, so the flexible price is given alongside. Use them to compare hotels, not as a quote. London rates are highest in summer and the weeks before Christmas, and out here they also jump around big shows at Olympia and the Apollo and Chelsea home games, when the few hotels next to each venue go first, so book early for those dates.

Novotel London West

Hammersmith. West London's busiest junction, and the most useful base on this side of town. From Hammersmith's District and Piccadilly station the Piccadilly line runs to Piccadilly Circus in about 17 minutes and out to Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 in about 33, with no change either way; the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines start from a second station across Hammersmith Broadway. The Eventim Apollo concert hall is here, and the riverside pubs by Hammersmith Bridge are a short walk south. The town centre itself is traffic and flyover, so the hotels worth booking are either right by the station or tucked into the side streets.

Novotel London West is the big one: a full-service hotel beside the flyover with a gym, two restaurants (the Aroma buffet and Artisan, which cooks over charcoal), a bar with a terrace and an on-site car park, six minutes' walk from the station and seven from the Apollo. It suits drivers, conference-goers and families who want a proper hotel with everything under one roof. It's 4.4 on Google from about 15,500 reviews.

It's built for volume, and it feels like it. A reviewer found the soundproofing thin enough to hear neighbours and the corridor, and parking costs £40 a night. A Superior Room with a queen bed (24 sq m) was £179 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Accor's site, or £211 flexible.

Tip

Families of four should book the Superior Room with Queen Bed and Double Sofa Bed, the same 24 sq m for a few pounds more. On-site parking is £40 a night, and the hotel takes cards only. Nearest station: Hammersmith (District and Piccadilly lines), 6 minutes on foot; about 17 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Eventim Apollo: 7 minutes.

One of the best things about this hotel is its convenient location. It is only a five-minute walk from Hammersmith train station from a visitor review

Premier Inn London Hammersmith (Shepherds Bush Road)

Premier Inn Hammersmith (Shepherds Bush Road) is the cheapest reliable bed at the heart of Hammersmith: three minutes to both Hammersmith stations and seven to the Eventim Apollo, with air conditioning, king-size beds and blackout curtains in every room. For a gig night or an early Piccadilly line run to Heathrow, it's the one I'd book. It's 4.3 on Google from about 700 reviews.

It's a Premier Inn, so no views and no surprises. Reviewers say the windows don't open and the breakfast leans heavily on fried food, and there's no parking. A Standard room was £117 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Premier Inn's site. Two other Premier Inns in Hammersmith, on Talgarth Road and King Street, are useful fallbacks if this one is full.

Tip

The Semi-Flex rate (£137 on 10 November) is refundable until three days before for £20 more. There's no parking; the nearest council car park is at Fulham Broadway, 14 minutes' walk, up to £45 for 24 hours. Nearest station: Hammersmith (District and Piccadilly lines), 3 minutes on foot; about 17 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Eventim Apollo: 7 minutes.

Heeton Concept Hotel - Luma Hammersmith

Luma Hammersmith is a modern, modular hotel on Glenthorne Road, styled after the old Osram light-bulb factory that stood in the neighbourhood, with air conditioning, a lounge bar and a 24-hour desk. It's the value pick for a young couple or a group of friends, with triple, quad and six-berth bunk rooms, four minutes from the Circle and Hammersmith & City station and six from the Piccadilly line. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,050 reviews.

The rooms are compact, and one reviewer was put out to find the toilet and shower behind wooden partitions rather than a proper bathroom door; there's no breakfast room either, just a pastry-style breakfast. A Luma Double was £136.50 non-refundable (£139.30 flexible) for Tuesday 10 November on the hotel's own site.

Tip

Join the free Heeton Explorer Club before you book: the member flexible rate for 10 November was £125.30 against £139.30. Groups can book The City Six Bunx, a double plus bunk beds. Nearest station: Hammersmith (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines), 4 minutes on foot; about 17 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. The District and Piccadilly station is 6 minutes; Eventim Apollo 9.

Incredible value for money especially for central London. ... The beds are very comfortable, rooms are designed well to not feel small. from a visitor review

Brook Green Hotel

Brook Green Hotel is a pub, once a coaching inn, with 17 air-conditioned bedrooms on the two floors above the bar, some looking over Brook Green. Downstairs there's a dining room, a garden and Smith's cocktail bar late on Thursday to Saturday. It's the one I'd pick in Hammersmith for character over convenience: eight or nine minutes' walk to the stations, twelve to the Apollo. It's 4.4 on Google from about 870 reviews.

The pub is the price of the charm. The rooms are reached by stairs only, one guest found a room tight for two, and the cocktail bar runs to 2am on Thursday to Saturday nights. A Cosy room was £176 prepaid, or £193.60 flexible, for Tuesday 10 November on the pub's own site.

Tip

Ask for a room facing the green; one reviewer found the water pressure weak on the top floor, so a first-floor room is the safer bet. Some rooms connect for families, and dogs are welcome for a fee. There's no lift and no car park. Nearest station: Hammersmith (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines), 8 minutes on foot; about 17 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. The District and Piccadilly station is 9 minutes; Eventim Apollo 12.

big windows overlooking the park, a fully stocked minibar ... Despite being above a pub, it was really quiet. from a visitor review

Temple Lodge Club

Temple Lodge Club is the quiet surprise of Hammersmith: a Grade II listed late-Georgian villa from about 1819, once home and studio to the artist Frank Brangwyn and owned since 1961 by The Christian Community, with 13 simple rooms, a garden, a library and an organic vegetarian breakfast included. Despite the name, anyone can book. It sits a minute's walk from the Eventim Apollo, six from the Hammersmith Circle and Hammersmith & City station and eight from the Piccadilly line. It's 4.8 on Google from about 90 reviews.

It's a guesthouse, not a hotel. There's no lift, no step-free room and three steps up to the front door, several rooms share bathrooms, and children under 7 aren't taken. The Raphael Room, a small double sharing bathrooms, was £95 with breakfast for Tuesday 10 November on its own booking page; the cheapest en-suite was £165.

Tip

Book an en-suite room if a shared bathroom matters (the Frank Brangwyn Room has its own balcony), and book early: there are only 13 rooms. No children under 7, check-in closes at 9pm and check-out is 10:30am. Nearest station: Hammersmith (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines), 6 minutes on foot; about 17 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. The District and Piccadilly station is 8 minutes; Eventim Apollo 1.

A little haven just off the beaten track of busy Hammersmith. Peaceful and understated in a positive way. from a visitor review

The Prince of Wales Townhouse

The Prince of Wales Townhouse is a big sports pub on Dalling Road with nine bedrooms upstairs named after Thames bridges, a Caribbean kitchen, fifteen beers on tap and a sheltered garden. It's the cheapest of the Hammersmith pub rooms here, with a flexible rate, three minutes from Ravenscourt Park station on the District line (about 20 minutes from Piccadilly Circus with a change at Hammersmith), and a good one for a group in town for a match. It's 4.6 on Google from about 750 reviews.

It's a sports pub first, with live sport on big screens, shuffleboard and darts, so expect noise on big-game nights, and breakfast isn't mentioned on its site or booking page. The Deluxe Double Ensuite was £133 for Tuesday 10 November on the pub's own booking page, cancellable free until two days before.

Tip

Families can ask for a room with a sofa bed, and the pub has travel cots. Plan on a café for breakfast. The pub doesn't mention a lift, so ask if stairs are a problem. Nearest station: Ravenscourt Park (District line), 3 minutes on foot; about 20 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Eventim Apollo: 15 minutes.

The pub has a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and a good selection of drinks. from a visitor review

The Hoxton, Shepherd's Bush

Shepherd's Bush and White City. Shepherd's Bush Green is a scruffy, lively triangle ringed by takeaways, the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire and, on the north side, Westfield London, the huge shopping centre. The Central line at Shepherd's Bush reaches Oxford Circus without a change and Piccadilly Circus in about 18 minutes with one; the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines at Shepherd's Bush Market and Goldhawk Road are slower into town. White City, further north, is the old BBC Television Centre, now flats, offices and the Soho House club White City House, whose bedrooms need a Soho Friends sign-up to book.

The Hoxton, Shepherd's Bush is the stylish pick: 237 rooms on the green with air conditioning, a Thai-influenced restaurant called Chet's, a wraparound bar, and dogs welcome free. Westfield is three minutes' walk, Shepherd's Bush Market station two, and the Central line seven. It's 4.3 on Google from about 750 reviews.

The rooms are small, and the cheapest ones are bunks or windowless basement Hideouts. A reviewer heard muffled hallway noise at night. The cheapest rooms, a Snug Bunk or a windowless Hideout, were £214 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on the Hoxton's own site, £249 flexible, or £199.20 flexible for Dis-loyalty members; a Snug with a king bed started at £239.

Tip

Sign up to the free Dis-loyalty scheme first: the member flexible rate beat the public non-refundable one. Couples should skip the Snug Bunk (bunk beds) and the Hideouts (basement, no windows) and book a Cosy Park for the view over the green. Dogs stay free. Nearest station: Shepherd's Bush Market (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines), 2 minutes on foot; about 28 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Shepherd's Bush (Central line, 18 minutes to Piccadilly Circus) is 7 minutes; Westfield London 3.

The room was small but well equipped and very comfortable. The addition of real milk in the fridge was a nice addition from a visitor review

ibis London Shepherds Bush - Hammersmith

ibis London Shepherd's Bush is the budget base for the Central line: three minutes from Shepherd's Bush station and seven from Westfield, with a Foggs restaurant and bar downstairs. It's what I'd book for a shopping trip or a cheap few days of sightseeing with a straight run to Oxford Circus. It's 4.2 on Google from about 1,550 reviews.

The rooms are 16 sq m, and there are no family rooms. Reviewers found twin beds squeezed together, rooms too hot with windows that don't open, and noise from the corridor. A double was £128.35 non-refundable (£151 flexible) for Tuesday 10 November on Accor's site.

Tip

Ask reception for the Westfield discount voucher (up to 25 per cent off in some shops). The hotel is cashless; the nearest car park, on Charecroft Way, is £25 for 24 hours with a 1.98 m height limit. Rooms take two people at most. Nearest station: Shepherd's Bush (Central line), 3 minutes on foot; about 18 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Westfield London: 7 minutes.

Hotel Indigo London K West Shepherd's Bush

Hotel Indigo London K West is the old K West Hotel & Spa, refurbished and rebranded, on a side street between Shepherd's Bush station (five minutes) and Olympia. The music-industry past is part of the story (one suite nods to the recording studios that used to be here), and it now has 231 rooms, the Flock restaurant and bar, and free stays for dogs. It suits a couple who want a newly done-up hotel near Westfield, which is nine minutes away. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,700 reviews.

The work isn't finished. The K West Spa, with a thermal journey and vitality pool, is due to open in late 2026 and the car park in early 2027, and recent reviewers mention construction noise. A Standard queen room was £238 non-refundable (£264 flexible) for Tuesday 10 November on IHG's site, which is a lot for Shepherd's Bush until the spa is open.

Dorsett Shepherds Bush, London

Dorsett Shepherds Bush fills the Shepherd's Bush Pavilion on the south side of the green with 317 air-conditioned rooms, the Spice Gallery restaurant, a bar and café, and a gym. It's the big modern hotel of the area and a good one for families, with rooms for three and four. Shepherd's Bush Market station is three minutes' walk, Westfield four and the Central line eight. It's 4.1 on Google from about 4,050 reviews.

Two recent guests had air conditioning that didn't work, one of them in a heatwave, and the windows don't open. On Booking.com a Dorsett Double was £140 for Tuesday 10 November, sold as a pay-now partner offer (a deal with no room type assigned was £130), against £253 for the public flexible rate.

Hilton London Kensington

Hilton London Kensington is Kensington in name only. It stands at the Shepherd's Bush end of Holland Park Avenue, six minutes from Shepherd's Bush station on the Central line and eight from Westfield, with the WestEleven restaurant, a bar, a fitness centre and private parking. It's a sensible big-brand choice for Hilton points collectors and families who want interconnecting rooms. It's 3.8 on Google from about 5,400 reviews.

That score reflects rooms that reviewers describe as dated, with thin walls and the odd cleanliness complaint, though one found the room larger than most in London. A Double Room was £170 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com, or £188 cancellable until 6 November.

Tip

Pay for a room upgrade only after checking what you get: reviewers say even upgraded rooms can be tight and the bathrooms dated. Families should ask for interconnecting rooms. Nearest station: Shepherd's Bush (Central line), 6 minutes on foot; about 18 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Westfield London: 8 minutes.

The room size is very good compared to many other London hotels, which was definitely a plus. from a visitor review

Hyatt Regency London Olympia

Olympia and West Kensington. Olympia is London's Victorian exhibition hall, and the hotels around it fill with trade-show crowds. Kensington (Olympia) station is on the Overground, with only a limited District line service, so for the West End most people walk to Barons Court or West Kensington, where the Piccadilly and District lines reach Piccadilly Circus in 15 to 18 minutes. The terraced streets south of Hammersmith Road are quiet and residential; Earl's Court, east of the railway, is covered in the Kensington hotels guide.

Hyatt Regency London Olympia is the new hotel inside the Olympia development, a minute from Kensington (Olympia) station and seven from the halls, with two restaurants, a bar, a fitness centre and rooms of about 24 sq m. It's the newest big hotel at Olympia, the one to book if you want everything brand new. It's 4.2 on Google from about 30 reviews.

It isn't cheap. A King or Twin was £255 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com (£300 flexible) plus £27 for breakfast, and as one reviewer points out, the station outside is no help for central sightseeing.

Hilton London Olympia

Hilton London Olympia is the cheaper big hotel for the exhibition halls, four minutes from Olympia at the west end of Kensington High Street, with the Society restaurant and bar, a coffee shop, a fitness centre and private parking. It's for trade-show visitors on an expense account more than tourists. Kensington (Olympia) station is five minutes away. It's 3.7 on Google from about 4,000 reviews.

Several reviewers call the rooms dated, and one had the air conditioning fail in 29°C heat with no window to open. A Twin Room was £188 non-refundable, or £193 cancellable until 6 November, for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com.

Tip

Take the flexible rate: on Booking.com it was only £5 more than the non-refundable one for 10 November. In summer, ask for a room where the air conditioning has been checked. Nearest station: Kensington (Olympia) (Overground and a limited District line service), 5 minutes on foot; about 27 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. it's a great location because there are bus stops and a tube station extremely close. from a visitor review

St Paul's Hotel

St Paul's Hotel is the history pick. The red-brick building on Hammersmith Road was St Paul's School, designed in 1884 by Alfred Waterhouse (the architect of the Natural History Museum), and it's where Churchill, Eisenhower and Montgomery met to plan the D-Day landings. Rooms are air-conditioned, some keep their fireplaces, and there's a lift and the Melody restaurant. Olympia is six minutes' walk and Barons Court station, on the Piccadilly line, eight. It's 4.4 on Google from about 670 reviews.

Room quality is uneven: one reviewer got a tired room with a mouldy shower seal before being moved. A Classic Double was £199 non-refundable (£213.92 flexible) for Tuesday 10 November on the hotel's own site, high for this part of town.

Rooms vary a lot, so ask for a refurbished room or one with an original fireplace, and avoid the loft rooms in winter, which a reviewer found cold. There's a lift and air conditioning. Nearest station: Barons Court (District and Piccadilly lines), 8 minutes on foot; about 15 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Olympia: 6 minutes; Eventim Apollo 13.

The Hand & Flower, Olympia

The Hand & Flower is a Victorian pub opposite Olympia with ten recently renovated, air-conditioned bedrooms upstairs, a full English breakfast included, and family suites that sleep up to five. You can't get closer to the exhibition halls (two minutes), and Kensington (Olympia) station is four. It's 4.2 on Google from about 1,750 reviews.

It isn't cheap: for Tuesday 10 November its own site offered only bed-and-breakfast rates, starting at £278.10 non-refundable for the last Cosy Double. A reviewer with a baby found the stairs hard work with a pram, though another found the room nearly soundproof despite the bar below.

Tip

Families can book a suite that sleeps up to five; an extra bed for a child aged 2 to 12 is £35 a night with breakfast. Reviewers mention stairs up to the rooms; accessible rooms can be arranged by contacting the hotel directly. Only assistance dogs are allowed. Nearest station: Kensington (Olympia) (Overground and a limited District line service), 4 minutes on foot; about 27 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. West Kensington (District line, 18 minutes to Piccadilly Circus) is 12 minutes; Olympia 2.

The W14 Hotel

The W14 Hotel is four Victorian stucco townhouses on a quiet residential street, rebuilt inside with parquet floors, rain showers and air conditioning, and a 24-hour reception. It's my budget pick for west London: six minutes from Barons Court on the Piccadilly line (15 minutes to Piccadilly Circus), seven from West Kensington and nine from Olympia. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,300 reviews.

There's no lift, no parking and no restaurant (breakfast is available; ask at reception). The Double Room was £121.80 non-refundable, or £131.95 flexible, for Tuesday 10 November on the hotel's own site.

Stamford Bridge Hotel London

Fulham. Fulham is the well-off, villagey stretch of south-west London between Earl's Court and the river: Victorian terraces, big pubs and the two football grounds, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge on Fulham Road and Fulham's Craven Cottage on the Thames. The District line runs through Fulham Broadway, Parsons Green and Putney Bridge, about 20 to 25 minutes from Piccadilly Circus with a change at Earl's Court. On a Chelsea home match day, Fulham Broadway station is packed before and after the game. Chelsea Harbour, next door on the river, is covered in the Knightsbridge and Chelsea hotels guide.

Stamford Bridge Hotel London is inside Chelsea's ground itself, six minutes' walk from the stadium entrance on Fulham Road and eight from Fulham Broadway, with the 55 restaurant, Frankie's sports bar and diner, 24-hour room service and central air conditioning. For a Chelsea fan, or anyone at a match or a stadium tour, nowhere is closer. It's 4.1 on Google from about 2,550 reviews.

Recent reviewers stayed through a refurbishment, with the reception moved and drilling from 8am, and some mention air conditioning that didn't work and worn carpets. It's also not cheap on an ordinary night: a Standard Double was £269 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com, or £299 flexible.

Tip

Premier Inn London Fulham

Premier Inn London Fulham is a new Premier Inn on North End Road, where Fulham meets West Kensington, and the cheapest en-suite room of the Fulham hotels here: air conditioning, king-size beds and a bar and restaurant that stays open round the clock. West Kensington station (District line) is eight minutes' walk and Stamford Bridge 18. It's 4.3 on Google from about 140 reviews.

A seven-night guest waited until the third night for the air conditioning to be fixed, and there's no parking. A Standard room was £98 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November on Premier Inn's site, £123 on the Semi-Flex rate.

The Captain Cook Pub and Rooms

The Captain Cook is a Fulham local on Dawes Road with eight rooms above the bar and a tapas-style menu downstairs that reviewers rate above most gastropubs. It's the best-value pub room in Fulham, and a good one for a match: Stamford Bridge is 19 minutes' walk. It's 4.6 on Google from about 810 reviews.

It's a walk from the Tube: Parsons Green is 14 minutes and Fulham Broadway 15. The cheapest rooms share a bathroom, and there's no breakfast, so plan on a café. For Tuesday 10 November on the pub's own site, a Standard King sharing a bathroom was £94 non-refundable, and the en-suite Superior King £104, or £119 flexible.

Tip

Book the Superior King: it's en-suite and only £10 more than the room with a shared bathroom. The Deluxe and Superior Kings sleep three, and cots are available. Check-in closes at 10:30pm unless you arrange self check-in. The pub doesn't mention a lift, so ask if stairs are a problem. Nearest station: Parsons Green (District line), 14 minutes on foot; about 22 minutes from there to Piccadilly Circus. Fulham Broadway is 15 minutes; Stamford Bridge 19.

Aragon House

Aragon House is a pub by Parsons Green with 15 air-conditioned rooms on three floors, some over the big garden, and an honesty bar and Nespresso machine in each. It's the smart choice for a Fulham weekend, on the New King's Road five minutes from Parsons Green station and 18 from Stamford Bridge. It's 4.4 on Google from about 450 reviews.

It's expensive for a pub room, and the Green Room downstairs hosts parties. On its own site the Comfy room was £299 prepaid for Tuesday 10 November, or £328.90 flexible, with breakfast extra.

DoubleTree by Hilton London - Chelsea

DoubleTree by Hilton London - Chelsea is really in Fulham, by the river at Imperial Wharf, three minutes from Imperial Wharf station on the Overground. It's a big modern hotel with a restaurant and bar and the DoubleTree cookie at check-in. Stamford Bridge is a 20-minute walk. It's 4.4 on Google from about 2,800 reviews.

The catch is the Overground: the West End is two changes away, about 24 minutes to Piccadilly Circus. A Double Room was £161 non-refundable, or £178 flexible, for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com.

High Road House

Chiswick. Chiswick is the prettiest place to stay in west London: a long high road of cafés, independent shops and pubs, with the Thames, Chiswick House and the riverside walk at Strand-on-the-Green to the south. It's also further out: only Ealing is further from the centre. Turnham Green station is on the District line (the Piccadilly line stops there only early and late), about 23 minutes from Piccadilly Circus with a change at Hammersmith; Gunnersbury, at the west end, adds the Overground. Richmond and Kew are further out along the same District line branch.

High Road House is the Soho House club on Chiswick High Road with 14 wood-panelled bedrooms that non-members can book, and a brasserie open to everyone. It's the one I'd pick for a couple who want Chiswick's village feel and a good-looking room, five minutes from Turnham Green station. It's 4.3 on Google from about 470 reviews.

You pay for the name. The Cosy rooms are 14 sq m, the £240 rate for Tuesday 10 November on Soho House's site was non-refundable and room only, and you're signed up to Soho Friends to complete the booking.

Second Nature Chiswick

Second Nature Chiswick is an 86-room 'hometel' of air-conditioned studios with kitchenettes, just off the High Road, with a gym, a 24-hour laundry, Winnie's café (breakfast until 2pm) and stays that run 24 hours, 2pm to 2pm. It's my pick for a week in west London, five minutes from Turnham Green station. It's 4.6 on Google from about 360 reviews.

The cheapest Studio has no window, the lobby doubles as a co-working café, and a reviewer found housekeeping missed a request. For Tuesday 10 November on its own site the windowless Studio was £183 and a windowed Compact Studio £188 non-refundable (£198 flexible), less for members.

Spark by Hilton London Chiswick is Hilton's budget brand at the Hammersmith end of Chiswick High Road, in what was the Best Western Chiswick Palace & Suites: air-conditioned rooms, a bar and a little parking. It's the cheapest of the Chiswick hotels here, seven minutes from Turnham Green and nine from Stamford Brook, both on the District line. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,000 reviews.

The £122 entry rate for Tuesday 10 November on Booking.com (£134 flexible) was for a compact room with no window, and a reviewer this summer stayed during a renovation with scaffolding, drilling and hammering.

The Drayton Court Hotel

Ealing. Ealing is a leafy, family-friendly suburb eight miles west of the centre, and the reason to stay is the Elizabeth line. From Ealing Broadway and West Ealing, trains reach Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 in 14 to 19 minutes and Paddington, Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road without a change; Piccadilly Circus is about 28 minutes from Ealing Broadway. Ealing Broadway also has the Central and District lines. It's quieter than anywhere closer in, and it's a good base for a first or last night by Heathrow.

The Drayton Court Hotel is a big historic pub in West Ealing with 27 air-conditioned bedrooms, a lift, a full English breakfast included, and a beer garden it bills as the biggest in London. It's two minutes from West Ealing station on the Elizabeth line, so it's my pick for a relaxed night before a Heathrow flight. It's 4.3 on Google from about 2,100 reviews.

It's a busy pub with live sport, weddings and functions, and the rooms vary in size. West Ealing has no Tube, and Ealing Broadway is 18 minutes' walk. A Luxury Double was £180 with breakfast, non-refundable, for Tuesday 10 November on the pub's own site, or £200 flexible.

ibis Styles London Ealing is a cheerful, cinema-themed budget hotel on Uxbridge Road with air conditioning that reviewers say copes with a heatwave, a restaurant and bar, a car park and family rooms. ── the quick answer

Which west London hotel, by traveller

A gig at the Eventim Apollo: Temple Lodge Club next door if you don't mind a guesthouse, or the Premier Inn on Shepherds Bush Road (£117), seven minutes away.

Olympia: the Hand & Flower across the road for a pub stay, St Paul's Hotel for history, or the W14 Hotel (£122) on a budget.

Chelsea at Stamford Bridge: the Stamford Bridge Hotel inside the ground; for less, the Captain Cook (£104 en-suite) or the Premier Inn London Fulham (£98).

Westfield and the Central line: the Hoxton for style, the Dorsett for families, the ibis for the price.

Heathrow: the Drayton Court in West Ealing, two minutes from the Elizabeth line, or anywhere in Hammersmith for the Piccadilly line.

A week or more: Second Nature Chiswick, for a studio with a kitchenette and a laundry.

Tight budget: the Captain Cook (£94 with a shared bathroom, £104 en-suite), Temple Lodge Club (£95 with a shared bathroom and breakfast), the Premier Inn London Fulham (£98) or ibis Styles London Ealing (£104).

── the honest trade-offs

What each patch gives up

Hammersmith: a direct Piccadilly line into town (about 17 minutes) and to Heathrow (about 33), but the centre is traffic and a flyover, not somewhere to linger.

Shepherd's Bush and White City: Westfield and the Central line, but a scruffy green and some small rooms.

Olympia and West Kensington: quiet streets and the exhibition halls, but Kensington (Olympia) station has only a limited Tube service, so you'll walk to Barons Court or West Kensington.

Fulham: handsome streets and the football, but a change at Earl's Court for the West End, and crowds at Fulham Broadway on match days.

Chiswick: the nicest high street in west London, but the furthest from the sights short of Ealing, and prices that don't feel suburban.

Ealing: the Elizabeth line to Heathrow in a quarter of an hour, but about half an hour to Piccadilly Circus.

── before you book

Rates, stairs and match days

Look at the flexible rate before you pay for a non-refundable one: at the Hilton London Olympia it was £5 more, at Luma under £3. Several chains take less if you join their free schemes (Heeton Explorer Club at Luma, Dis-loyalty at the Hoxton, ALL at the ibis Styles, Click on Clayton), and Dorsett gives a 26-hour stay only when you book direct.

The pubs with rooms (the Brook Green Hotel, the Prince of Wales Townhouse, the Hand & Flower, the Captain Cook, Aragon House, the Drayton Court) are the most characterful stays out here, but every one has a busy bar below, the Brook Green Hotel is stairs-only, reviewers mention stairs at the Hand & Flower, and only the Drayton Court says it has a lift. Two big hotels had work going on this year, the Stamford Bridge Hotel and Spark by Hilton, and Hotel Indigo K West's spa is due to open in late 2026, so ask before you book.

── frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is Hammersmith a good area to stay in London?
Yes, if you want value and a fast line into town rather than a pretty street. The Piccadilly line runs from Hammersmith to Piccadilly Circus in about 17 minutes and to Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 in about 33, with no change, and the Eventim Apollo is on the doorstep. The town centre is busy roads and a flyover, so pick a hotel by the station or on a side street. On Tuesday 10 November 2026 a double ran from £95 with a shared bathroom at Temple Lodge Club and £117 at the Premier Inn on Shepherds Bush Road to £176 at the Brook Green Hotel and £179 at the Novotel.
How far is west London from central London by Tube?
About 15 to 30 minutes to Piccadilly Circus, depending on the station. TfL's Journey Planner, for a 10am Tuesday departure, puts Piccadilly Circus about 15 minutes from Barons Court, 17 from Hammersmith, 18 from Shepherd's Bush and West Kensington, 20 from Fulham Broadway, 23 from Turnham Green in Chiswick and 28 from Ealing Broadway. Kensington (Olympia), Shepherd's Bush Market and Imperial Wharf are slower (24 to 28 minutes) because they aren't on a direct line into the West End.
Where should I stay near Stamford Bridge?
The Stamford Bridge Hotel, inside Chelsea's ground, is six minutes' walk from the stadium entrance on Fulham Road, though recent guests stayed through a refurbishment and a double was £269 on an ordinary November Tuesday. Cheaper beds within about 20 minutes' walk are the Premier Inn London Fulham on North End Road (18 minutes, £98), the Captain Cook on Dawes Road (19 minutes, £94 with a shared bathroom, £104 en-suite) and the DoubleTree at Imperial Wharf (20 minutes, £161); Aragon House by Parsons Green (18 minutes) is the smarter pub stay at £299. On match days Fulham Broadway station is packed, so leave time.
Which part of west London is best for Heathrow?
Ealing, for the Elizabeth line: West Ealing is 14 to 16 minutes from Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 and Ealing Broadway 16 to 19, and the Drayton Court Hotel is two minutes from West Ealing station. Hammersmith is the other good choice, with the Piccadilly line direct to Terminals 2 and 3 in about 33 minutes and a quicker ride into the West End. For a bed at the terminals themselves, see the Heathrow hotels guide.
Where should I stay for the Eventim Apollo or Olympia?
For the Apollo, Temple Lodge Club is a minute's walk away, and the Premier Inn on Shepherds Bush Road and the Novotel London West are seven minutes. For Olympia, the Hand & Flower is two minutes across the road, Hilton London Olympia four, St Paul's Hotel six, the Hyatt Regency seven and the W14 Hotel nine. Book early for a big show, because the few hotels next to each venue go first.
