── the quick answer
Which Shoreditch hotel, by traveller
First time in Shoreditch: the Hoxton, or citizenM if you want a quieter lane and a lower bill.
Couples and special occasions: Boundary for space and the rooftop, Batty Langley's for Georgian character and quiet, Aethos for a sleek design hotel with a good restaurant.
A pool: Virgin Hotels (rooftop, heated), art'otel Hoxton (indoor, with views from the 25th floor restaurant), Courthouse (indoor, in a former magistrates' court), Montcalm East (spa pool, and a bargain on Saturdays) or the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green.
Nightlife on the doorstep: One Hundred Shoreditch, with a rooftop bar and a basement cocktail bar in the building, or the Culpeper (a pub) and the Buxton (a wine bar), both with rooms.
Light sleepers: Redchurch Townhouse, Batty Langley's, a Maldron inner-facing room, or Town Hall. Avoid rooms under rooftop bars.
Families: One Hundred Shoreditch (free cots, rooms for four), Premier Inn Old Street (family and interconnecting rooms), the ibis on Commercial Street (triples), Central Hoxton's kitchen studios or Kip's bunk rooms in Hackney.
Budget: the two hub by Premier Inns, Premier Inn Old Street, or on a weeknight Premier Inn Hackney and Kip. The Buxton, at £160 with breakfast, is the budget pick with personality.
Dogs: the Hoxton (free in Cosy and Roomy rooms), Virgin Hotels (free, up to two), One Hundred (£35 a stay), Hart Shoreditch, art'otel, the ibis, Staycity Dalston and the Town Hall Hotel (£25 a day).
Longer stays: Staycity in Dalston or Central Hoxton, both with kitchens; the Town Hall Hotel's Junior Suites have a kitchen area.
── the honest trade-offs
What each part of East London gives up
Shoreditch proper: the design hotels, bars and restaurants on the doorstep; the loudest nights (Thursday to Saturday), the smallest rooms for the money, and the highest Tuesday prices.
Old Street and City Road: the Northern line for King's Cross and Euston, and calmer, bigger chain hotels; a traffic roundabout instead of a neighbourhood, and 10 to 15 minutes' walk to the Shoreditch bars.
Hoxton and Columbia Road: quieter streets, Columbia Road's Sunday flower market and the Overground at Hoxton; plain budget hotels, and Kingsland Road traffic.
Spitalfields and Brick Lane: Georgian streets, the markets and the shortest walk to Liverpool Street; Brick Lane's crowds and late bars, and several small hotels that sell out at weekends.
Bethnal Green: bigger rooms, a pool at the Town Hall and a fast Central line to the West End; a 25 to 30 minute walk to Shoreditch.
Hackney and Dalston: the cheapest weeknight rooms and a busy local bar scene; about 40 to 55 minutes' walk to Shoreditch, so you'll live on the Overground, and weekend prices jump.

The ones you'll see on the booking sites
These are open and bookable, but I'd pick the hotels above first. The Four Points Flex by Sheraton London Shoreditch East on Cambridge Heath Road is two minutes from Bethnal Green station and was £160 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, but its rooms are small and windowless, some of them (one reviewer warns) two floors below ground. Then there are the Travelodge London Bethnal Green (3.6 on Google from more than 1,200 reviews, with street and train noise in recent complaints) and the Travelodge London Hackney by Hackney Central (3.8 from about 740); and, around Old Street, the easyHotel London City Shoreditch and Holiday Inn Express London - City for a plain, cheap bed. Shoreditch House, the Soho House club on Ebor Street, also lets bedrooms to non-members, from about £435 on Saturday 14 November.
Some hotels with Shoreditch or Spitalfields in their marketing sit closer to Liverpool Street and Aldgate, and belong with the City of London: Point A Liverpool Street on Folgate Street, the Wilde aparthotel on Middlesex Street, the Travelodge on City Road and the Hampton by Hilton London City at the bottom of Brick Lane (4.7 on Google from more than 2,400 reviews). Mama Shelter on Hackney Road has closed permanently.

Prices and timing
Each figure is the lowest double for two for one night, taken on 25 September 2026 for Tuesday 10 and Saturday 14 November 2026, room only unless it says breakfast is included. Most come from the hotel's own site; the rest are Booking.com prices and say so. Rates move daily.
The pattern to play: in Shoreditch proper, stay Friday or Saturday and pay far less than on a Tuesday; in Hackney, Dalston and at the smallest hotels, go midweek. London as a whole is dearest from mid-November to New Year and in the school summer holidays, and cheapest in January and February.
