Where to Stay in Paddington & Bayswater: The 28 Best Hotels by Hyde Park (2026)

The 28 Paddington and Bayswater hotels I'd book, grouped by where you'd wake up: by Paddington station and the Basin, on the Sussex Gardens B&B strip, at Lancaster Gate on the park edge, and in Bayswater by Queensway, each with a dated rate, walking minutes to the Heathrow Express and to Hyde Park, and one honest catch.

Where to stay in Paddington & Bayswater the Heathrow Express at one end, Hyde Park at the other

Stay in Paddington if you're landing at Heathrow, leaving on a train to the west, or want Hyde Park as your back garden without paying Mayfair or Knightsbridge prices. The Heathrow Express and the Elizabeth line arrive at Paddington station, and the northern edge of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens is five to ten minutes' walk south. Skip it if you want theatres and bars outside the door: the West End is a Tube ride away, and the streets around the station are functional rather than lovely. My short answer: the Royal Lancaster for the park, the Pilgrm or Hotel Indigo for a night near the platforms, the Premier Inn by the station or Lancaster Hall on a budget, and the Darlington or Wilde's apartments for families. To compare Paddington with the rest of London first, start with the where to stay in London guide.

The hotels are grouped into four patches. First the station and Paddington Basin, where you can be on the Heathrow Express in minutes; then Sussex Gardens, the long street of small hotels, rated as honestly as it deserves; then Lancaster Gate, where the stucco terraces meet the park; and last Bayswater and Queensway, closer to Kensington Gardens and further from the trains. Every hotel has its nearest Tube station (the subway), Google's walking minutes to Paddington station (and, for most, to the nearest park gate), its Google rating, a dated price, one real drawback and a room tip. East of Edgware Road is Marylebone; south of the park is Kensington.

About the prices: each one is the lowest price for a double on the same ordinary night, Tuesday 10 November 2026, for two adults, including VAT (London has no hotel tax as of 2026). Most come from Booking.com's public rates, and the Premier Inn's and Onefam's from their own websites, all read in late September 2026. Treat them as a way to rank hotels against each other, not as a quote. Rates in this part of London climb through the summer holidays and in December, and weeknights from January to March are usually the cheapest time; for the busy months, book several months ahead.

Hilton London Paddington

Paddington station and the Basin. Everything here is built around one fact: Paddington is where the Heathrow Express comes in (15 minutes to Terminals 2 and 3, 21 to Terminal 5, from £10 booked 30 days ahead or £26 on the day), and so does the Elizabeth line, which takes 28 minutes and costs far less on contactless. The same station has the Bakerloo, Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines. Around it you get the station hotels on Praed Street and London Street, the quiet garden squares of Norfolk and Talbot Square, and, behind the platforms, the glass offices and canal of Paddington Basin. It's convenient more than charming: nobody walks around Praed Street for the fun of it.

Hilton London Paddington is the one I'd book if the priority is getting off a long flight and into bed. It's the Great Western Railway's hotel of 1854, built as the grand front of the station, and there's a way in directly from the station. The rooms are modern, there's a fitness centre (no pool) and the family and connecting rooms make it a sensible choice for parents. Hyde Park's Italian Gardens are a ten-minute walk. It's 4.0 on Google from about 4,600 reviews.

The catch is the price for what is, underneath, a big and busy station hotel. The cheapest room for Tuesday 10 November was a Family Room at £321 on Booking.com (the King Room was £332) and breakfast was another £29 a head, so the Pilgrm or the Indigo a few steps away cost less for more character. One reviewer called it an older property where some things need attention. Book it for the arrival, not for the romance.

Tip

Parents should book the Family Room and confirm connecting rooms at booking. Paddington station is a one-minute walk, and there's a direct entrance from the station.

There is a way to enter directly from the Paddington station. from a visitor review

The Pilgrm

The Pilgrm is my pick for the Paddington end if you care how a place feels. It's 73 rooms in a row of restored Victorian buildings on London Street, with old parquet floors and cast-iron radiators, a Monmouth coffee counter on the ground floor and a first-floor lounge and terrace serving breakfast, cocktails and a guest-chef residency (Duda Diner, Malaysian, Wednesday to Saturday evenings until late December). Paddington station is two minutes away and Victoria Gate into Hyde Park eight. Google has it at 4.1 from about 1,300 reviews.

Know what you're trading. The rooms are small (a Snug is about 12 square metres, a Bunk seven), there's no extra bed in any of them, and there's no air conditioning: the hotel uses electric fans as a sustainability choice, which matters in a July heatwave. The old windows on the street side let the noise in, and one reviewer barely slept for it. The Double Room with no view was £239 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November.

Price: from about £239 a night (Double Room, no view, room only), off-peak midweek double, Tue 10 Nov 2026, Booking.com public rate, checked 25 Sep 2026; on the hotel's own site the rooms run from the 7 sq m Bunk to the 14 sq m Comfy
Tip

Book a Comfy (about 14 sq m, king or super-king bed) if you're sharing with luggage, and ask for a room at the back if you're a light sleeper. There are stairs at the entrance and in some corridors, so no room is step-free. Paddington station is a two-minute walk.

The rooms have character and are very clean and well laid out; not large, but this is London! from a visitor review

Hotel Indigo London - Paddington

Hotel Indigo is the safe boutique choice two minutes from the station: 64 rooms in a Victorian building on London Street, a lift to every floor, proper air conditioning, a free minibar and a coffee machine in each room. The ground-floor Bella Italia does breakfast through dinner and there's a small bar with a garden terrace. Victoria Gate into Hyde Park is seven minutes' walk. It's 4.1 on Google from about 960 reviews.

It costs more than its neighbours for rooms that aren't bigger: the Standard rooms are 15 to 21 square metres and reviewers call them compact. The Standard Double for Tuesday 10 November was £287 on Booking.com, £18 more than the Mercure round the corner. What you're paying for is the air con and the reliability, which after a night flight in August is worth a lot.

Tip

Standard rooms are 15 to 21 sq m, so book a Premium (23 to 25 sq m) and ask for one with a patio or the Norfolk Square garden view. Only two rooms are wheelchair-accessible, so book those early. Paddington station is a two-minute walk.

We took the Heathrow Express from the airport and were practically checking in before our jet lag had time to unpack. from a visitor review

Premier Inn London Paddington (Paddington Station)

Premier Inn London Paddington (Paddington Station) is the value pick for a Heathrow arrival: across Eastbourne Terrace from the station, three minutes' walk, with air conditioning in every room, family rooms and Premier Inn's rule that up to two children stay free, and eat breakfast free when an adult orders breakfast. It's 4.1 on Google from about 410 reviews. Its sister, the Premier Inn at Paddington Basin by the canal, charged the same £202 on the same night but is a nine-minute walk from the platforms, so this is the one to book.

It's a Premier Inn, with everything that means. The windows don't open, so you rely on the air con; rooms are cleaned only when you ask; and luggage storage is limited. On Premier Inn's own site the Standard double was £202 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November (£237 fully flexible), £119 less than the cheapest room at the Hilton on the other side of the station.

Tip

Pay for early check-in (from 11am, extra fee) after a red-eye, and book a family room for up to two children, who stay free, and eat breakfast free when an adult orders the Premier Inn Breakfast. The APCOA car park on Bishop's Bridge Road is £35.20 per 24 hours. Paddington station is a three-minute walk.

If you fly into Heathrow get the Heathrow express and you walk out of Paddington station and it’s across the road from a visitor review

Mercure London Hyde Park

Mercure London Hyde Park is on Talbot Square, one of the leafy garden squares between Praed Street and Sussex Gardens, which makes it a quiet address for somewhere this close to the station (five minutes on foot). It's a Victorian townhouse hotel with air conditioning, a 24-hour gym and, according to reviewers, a complimentary minibar, and the family room sleeps three in single beds. Despite the name, Hyde Park's Victoria Gate is eight minutes away. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,300 reviews.

The Cosy Double behind the £269 Booking.com rate for Tuesday 10 November is 14 square metres; the Standard King is 16 and the Superior 19, so trade up if you'll spend time in the room. Breakfast is served at the Bella Italia next door, which it shares with the Indigo. One reviewer grumbled about paying £2.50 a bag to leave luggage for a few hours.

Tip

Ask for a room overlooking the Talbot Square garden. Families should ask for an upper-floor Family Room (24 sq m, three single beds), as one of them is on the ground floor. Luggage storage is charged per bag. Paddington station is a five-minute walk.

A beautiful building, situated in a quiet street a stones throw away from Paddington Station. from a visitor review

Point A Hotel London Paddington

Point A Paddington is a cheap, sensible bed near the station: a modern budget hotel at the Edgware Road end of Praed Street, four minutes from Edgware Road station (Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines) and six from Paddington. Rooms are small, air-conditioned and spotless by most accounts, there's a 24-hour guest lounge, and the hotel has a Green Tourism Silver award. Google has it at 4.1 from about 1,900 reviews.

The £143 room on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November was a Cosy Double with no window, which suits some sleepers and not others. The bigger rooms are only 13 square metres, every room takes two people at most, and there are no cots. One reviewer felt the Tube rumbling under the building, so a high floor is worth asking for. Luggage storage is £3 a bag.

Tip

Book direct: breakfast is free for A List members and you can pick your exact room, so choose a high floor with a window (or windowless for total quiet). Rooms take two people at most and there's no space for a cot. Edgware Road station is a four-minute walk, Paddington six.

Clean modern hotel with friendly staff. Rooms small but do the trick for a good nights sleep. from a visitor review

Wilde, London, Paddington

Wilde Paddington is where I'd put a family or anyone staying a week: an aparthotel on Paddington Basin with a full kitchen in every studio and apartment, a lift, air conditioning, a 24-hour reception, a gym, a laundry room and free cots and high chairs. The One-Bedroom Apartment sleeps four. It's 4.8 on Google from about 3,600 reviews, a remarkable score on that many.

It's the far side of the station. Paddington's platforms are a ten-minute walk and Hyde Park is 18, though Edgware Road's Bakerloo line is five minutes away. There's no housekeeping at all on stays under a week, which one reviewer found out on a six-night stay, and the Studio was £305 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, so it only beats a hotel on value once you use the kitchen.

Tip

Families should book the One-Bedroom Apartment (sleeps four) and add the free cot and high chair at booking. Housekeeping only starts on stays of a week or more, so ask for extra cleans (£25 a studio) if you need them. Paddington station is a ten-minute walk; Edgware Road (Bakerloo) is five.

The Paddington Basin location is excellent, the gym is a great bonus, and the modern kitchenette makes longer stays so much easier. from a visitor review

Novotel London Paddington

Novotel London Paddington is the family hotel with a pool. It's in the office quarter of Sheldon Square behind the station, and every Superior room is 25 square metres, which is big for Zone 1; the version with a double sofa bed sleeps four. There's a heated indoor pool, a gym and an all-day restaurant, No.3. It's 4.3 on Google from about 3,000 reviews.

Two things to weigh. It's not by the park: Paddington's platforms are eleven minutes' walk and Hyde Park twenty, through an office quarter. And the hotel's own page still carries a notice about a full room renovation that started in November 2025; a reviewer this summer had works next to their room, so ask. The Superior Queen was £368 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November.

Tip

A family of four needs the Superior Room with a double sofa bed (25 sq m, four people). Ask for a renovated room away from any works when you check in. Royal Oak station is a ten-minute walk, Paddington eleven.

Nice and spacious room. Room was fairly clean. Close to the train station and you could hear some rumblings but ultimately quiet enough. from a visitor review

Hilton London Metropole

Hilton London Metropole is the giant on the west side of Edgware Road, two minutes from Edgware Road station and eight from Paddington. It's a conference hotel first, with over 10,000 Google reviews averaging 3.9, and it was noticeably cheaper than the Paddington Hilton on the same night: £237 for a Queen Room on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November against £321.

Book it for the Hilton points and the price, not for the neighbourhood: Edgware Road is a busy main road, and Hyde Park is a 16-minute walk. One reviewer praised the quiet air conditioning and well laid-out rooms; another says the rooms aren't very soundproof from the corridor, and the scale means it can feel impersonal.

Tip

Ask for a room away from the lifts and corridor doors, which a reviewer says carry sound. Edgware Road station (Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines) is a two-minute walk; Paddington is eight.

This hotel is large enough for holding large scale conferences and programs which is what it seemingly targets moreso than the individual guest experience. from a visitor review

Best Western Plus Delmere Hotel

Sussex Gardens: the B&B strip, honestly rated. Sussex Gardens is the wide road of white stucco terraces running west from Edgware Road a few streets north of Hyde Park, and it's almost entirely small hotels. Some are fine and most are tired. Of the 34 hotels on Sussex Gardens with at least 50 Google reviews, only four rate 4.0+ (the three below and the Grand Concerto), and 14 rate under three and a half (Google, September 2026). The usual catches are small rooms, no lift or a lift that doesn't reach every floor, no air conditioning, and basement rooms. The three below are the ones I'd book, plus Stylotel for its included breakfast.

The Best Western Plus Delmere is my pick of the strip for couples: a Victorian front with a modern refit behind it, lifts to every floor, air-conditioned rooms with rain showers, a 24-hour front desk, and free tea and coffee all day. Paddington station is five minutes' walk and Victoria Gate eight. It's 4.3 on Google from about 560 reviews.

The rooms are tight, especially the singles, and the walls are thin. The air conditioning is the recurring complaint: reviewers say it struggles in a heatwave, and one says the hotel knows it, so come outside July and August if heat bothers you. The Cosy Double was £207 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, and two children aged 12 or under stay free with two paying adults.

Book the Executive Double for space and ask for an upper floor, as rooms may be on the ground or lower-ground floor. It has two parking spaces at £20 per 24 hours, first come first served. Paddington station is a five-minute walk.

Small rooms but really clean, really nice, really quiet. from a visitor review

The Darlington Hyde Park

The Darlington Hyde Park is the Sussex Gardens hotel I'd send a family to. It's 40 rooms across four converted Victorian townhouses, with triples, quads and two interconnecting rooms that sleep six, breakfast in a conservatory included on every booking, a 24-hour reception and a coin laundry. Paddington station is six minutes' walk and Victoria Gate nine. It's 4.2 on Google from about 430 reviews.

There's no air conditioning (every room has a fan), the rooms are dated in places, and because it's four houses knocked together the room shapes vary a lot. Google lists no wheelchair-accessible entrance, so ask before booking if steps are a problem. Extras add up: luggage is free until 3pm on departure day, then £5 a piece. The Standard Double with breakfast was £156 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November; the hotel's own tariff starts doubles at £129.

Tip

Book direct for a full English instead of continental. A family of four should ask for a quad with all beds in one room, and groups of five or six can book the two interconnecting lower-ground rooms by phone or email. Paddington station is a six-minute walk.

Friendly place to stay. Basic rooms that are clean. Has an elevator to all floors. from a visitor review

Athena Hotel London

The Athena is the family-run option, and it has a room that sleeps five, as well as triples and quads, daily housekeeping, a 24-hour reception and a little parking at £20 a day if you book it. Breakfast is included when you book direct. Paddington is five minutes' walk. It's 4.2 on Google from about 780 reviews.

No air conditioning (a fan on request), so the windows stay open on summer nights and you hear Sussex Gardens' traffic. The lift doesn't reach every part of the building, and there's no fridge in the rooms. The cheapest room Booking.com offered two adults for Tuesday 10 November was a Standard Family Room at £201, so book early if you want a plain double.

Tip

Book the Family (5) Room direct for free breakfast, and ask for a room the lift reaches if you have heavy bags. There's no air conditioning, so ask for a fan in summer. Paddington station is a five-minute walk.

Our quad room was spotless, nicely decorated, and had a really good bathroom. from a visitor review

Stylotel

Stylotel is good value once you count breakfast: the £169 Double Styloroom on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November included a hot and cold buffet, and it had free cancellation. It's four minutes from Paddington, with air conditioning in every room, a 24-hour reception, a Quatro room for families of four and a pub round the corner on London Street, the Sussex Arms, which gives guests a free drink.

The design is two decades old and the older rooms show it: tiny pod bathrooms, thin mattresses, and air con that some reviewers found unreliable. It's 3.9 on Google from about 660 reviews, which is middling, not bad, for this street. There's a lift, but also a few steps between the lift and each floor.

Tip

Ask for one of the newer 'Awesome' Stylorooms with a rain shower. Families should look at the Quatro Styloroom (double plus bunks) or a Stylosuite with a kitchenette. There are a few steps between the lift and each floor, so it isn't step-free. Paddington station is a four-minute walk.

They even offered to show us a larger room on arrival in case we preferred it, which was a very nice touch. from a visitor review

Royal Lancaster London

Lancaster Gate and the park edge. South and west of the station, the streets open out into big stucco terraces (Westbourne Terrace, Lancaster Gate, Craven Hill) that end at Bayswater Road and the northern edge of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. This is the prettiest part of the area, and the part to pick if the park is why you're here: the Italian Gardens and the Serpentine's Long Water are a few minutes' walk. Lancaster Gate station is on the Central line, which runs straight to Oxford Circus and the City, and Paddington is five to eight minutes on foot.

Royal Lancaster London is my overall pick for the area. It's the 1967 tower across the road from Victoria Gate, with 411 rooms, the Nipa Thai restaurant, a 24-hour gym and upper floors that look straight over Hyde Park. The Classic rooms are 20 square metres with a 1.8-metre king bed, and families get guaranteed interconnecting rooms, free cots, a playroom in the school holidays and free breakfast for under-12s. Lancaster Gate station is two minutes away, Paddington eight. It's 4.6 on Google from about 4,500 reviews.

It's a 411-room tower, so it's slick rather than intimate, and reviewers mention limited wardrobe space and twin beds pushed close together. The hotel also has a strong accessibility record, with step-free accessible rooms and a mobile hoist on request. The Classic Room was £317 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November.

Roseate House London

Roseate House is the romantic choice: three Grade II townhouses of 1842 at the park end of Westbourne Terrace, with Penhaligon's toiletries, two lifts, and The Hyde restaurant and garden for breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea. Paddington station is five minutes away and the Italian Gardens six. It's 4.3 on Google from about 640 reviews, and it's pet-friendly.

It prices itself as a luxury boutique hotel but the entry room was £225 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, which is good value for the street, if you accept a small Double Economy room. Breakfast is £29.95 a head unless it's included in your rate, and parking is £50 a night, limited and bookable.

The toiletries were fantastic as well (Penhaligon's); you truly don’t need to bring anything because everything is provided and of great quality. from a visitor review

The Westbourne Hyde Park

The Westbourne Hyde Park is the practical pick for a longer stay by the park: 96 studios and suites across eight restored terraced houses, each studio with a mini-kitchen (fridge, microwave, Nespresso machine) and its own air conditioning. It's five minutes to the Italian Gardens, four to Lancaster Gate station and six to Paddington. It's 4.3 on Google from about 1,100 reviews.

There's a bar but no restaurant, and no guaranteed early check-in, though the hotel says it tries to help early-flight arrivals. Some rooms and bathrooms are on the small side. The Deluxe Double Studio was £201 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, which with a kitchen to hand makes it one of the better deals near the park.

Lancaster Hall Hotel

Lancaster Hall is the budget hotel I'd pick near the park: £121 for a Basic Standard Double on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, on quiet Craven Terrace six minutes from both Paddington and the Italian Gardens. It's been running since 1973, has lifts, a 24-hour reception and a bar, and a separate youth-hostel wing for groups. Book direct and breakfast is included. It's 4.2 on Google from about 890 reviews.

The Standard Double is 12.5 square metres and has no air conditioning; only the Superior rooms do. The decor is dated, check-out is an early 10:30am, and one reviewer was charged to store luggage. For a clean, quiet bed near the park for £121, those are fair trades.

The area is really quiet so you can relax after visiting London. from a visitor review

Inhabit Queen's Gardens

Inhabit Queen's Gardens is the wellness hotel: a B Corp-certified conversion of Georgian townhouses with 158 rooms, a plant-led all-day restaurant (Yeotown Kitchen), a small spa, a yoga studio with daily classes, and a gym. It's seven minutes from Paddington and eight from Lancaster Gate station. It's 3.9 on Google from about 680 reviews.

The rooms are the problem. The Sleeper is 8 to 11 square metres and the Cosy Double 12 to 15, reviewers say the rooms are tiny, and one found nowhere to unpack. The Cosy Double with breakfast was £280 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, which is a lot for the space. Book it if the yoga and the food are the point of the trip.

Tip

Skip the Sleeper (8 to 11 sq m, sometimes in the basement) and book at least a Cosy; families can book the Family room with four single beds, some of which interconnect. Tell the hotel at booking if you need a wheelchair-accessible room. Paddington station is a seven-minute walk.

Thistle London Hyde Park Kensington Gardens

Bayswater and Queensway. West of Lancaster Gate, the area turns into Bayswater proper: Queensway's restaurants, the squares off it, and Kensington Gardens across Bayswater Road. There are two Tube stations, Queensway (Central line) and Bayswater (Circle and District), but Paddington is 10 to 22 minutes' walk, so if you're arriving from Heathrow take the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express to Paddington and then a Circle or District line train one stop to Bayswater, or a taxi. West of Pembridge Square, you're in Notting Hill.

Thistle London Hyde Park Kensington Gardens is the value hotel facing the park: 175 rooms on Bayswater Road, four minutes from Queensway station and Black Lion Gate into Kensington Gardens, with a restaurant looking over the park, a 24-hour reception and luggage storage. The family rooms (for three or four, 20 and 33 square metres) have garden views. It's 4.1 on Google from about 1,900 reviews.

The Standard Double at £198 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November is 16 square metres and doesn't come with a view. There's no free water in the rooms, and one reviewer was moved to another hotel on arrival because of overbooking. For the location at that price, it's still the one I'd book on this stretch.

Tip

Book a Family Room (sleeps three, 20 sq m) or Deluxe Family Room (sleeps four, 33 sq m) for the Kensington Gardens view; the Standard rooms don't promise one. Parking is £35 per 24 hours. Queensway station is a four-minute walk.

Hilton London Hyde Park

Hilton London Hyde Park has a very handy position in Bayswater: on the corner of Bayswater Road and Queensway, next door to Queensway station (Central line) and across the road from Black Lion Gate into Kensington Gardens. For a Hilton loyalist who wants the park rather than the station, it's the one. It's 4.2 on Google from about 2,000 reviews.

Watch the room allocation. Two reviewers say the basement rooms, including the Deluxe Family Suite, have no daylight, and there are steps down to the lower level. Paddington is a 16-minute walk, so arrive by Tube. The Queen Room was £260 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November.

Tip

Ask for an above-ground room with a window: reviewers say the lower-level rooms, including the Deluxe Family Suite, have no natural light, and there are a few steps down to them even with the lift. Queensway station is next door.

Six Senses London

Six Senses London is the splurge in Bayswater: 109 rooms and suites inside the Whiteley, the Grade II listed former Whiteleys department store on Queensway, which Foster + Partners redesigned around its original dome and courtyard. Below the hotel is a 2,300-square-metre spa with a 20-metre indoor pool, saunas and a 24-hour gym, and Whiteley's Kitchen serves modern British food. Dogs up to 7 kg stay free. Bayswater station is five minutes' walk, Black Lion Gate into Kensington Gardens ten and Paddington 17. It's 4.5 on Google from about 110 reviews.

It's the most expensive hotel on this page by a distance: the 30-square-metre Superior was £859 room only on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, more than double the Royal Lancaster, and breakfast is £48 on top. Even the entry rooms have an open-plan bathroom, with the glass rain shower inside the room, so it suits a couple better than friends sharing. Ask for a Deluxe on an upper floor for the view.

NOX Hyde Park

NOX Hyde Park is the budget pick in Bayswater: £119 for a Double Room on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, on Queensway itself, two minutes from Bayswater station and six from Kensington Gardens. Rooms are small but air-conditioned, there's a lift and a 24-hour reception, and it's 4.6 on Google from about 2,700 reviews.

The rooms really are small, and the brand-new lower-ground studios have no windows at all (the hotel says so plainly). One reviewer had air con that failed in a heatwave. Paddington is a 17-minute walk, so use the Circle or District line from Bayswater.

La Suite West

La Suite West is the design hotel of Bayswater: several townhouses on Inverness Terrace that Anouska Hempel first designed in black and white, recently redone in a softer style, a minute from Bayswater station and five from Kensington Gardens. Rooms have air conditioning, it's dog-friendly, and it has ground-floor accessible rooms and a step-free entrance. It's 4.0 on Google from about 850 reviews.

Every Petite Double is on the lower ground floor, and two reviewers reported mould smells down there, so the £218 Superior Double on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November is the room to book. Soundproofing is the other complaint. Book direct and continental breakfast is included.

London House Hotel

London House Hotel is a 103-room budget hotel across five Victorian houses on Kensington Gardens Square, a quiet garden square four minutes from Bayswater station. Every room has air conditioning, which is not a given in this price bracket, and reviewers mention a mini-fridge, and it's 4.2 on Google from about 1,700 reviews.

Rooms are small (the singles are 9.5 square metres) and the en-suites smaller; one reviewer found the toilet blocked part of the bathroom doorway. The Small Double was £160 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, and breakfast is £15.95 a head. Paddington is 18 minutes on foot.

Love the mini fridge, breakfast and air conditioning was great and worked well (which isn't always the case in other hotels). from a visitor review

The Caesar Hotel

The Caesar is the one with a story: 120 rooms in a row of listed Victorian houses on Queen's Gardens, decorated with genuine Roman mosaics from ancient Syria, from the collection of Jordi Clos, president of Derby Hotels, which owns the hotel. There's a tapas bar-restaurant (XO), a small gym with a sauna, air conditioning, and it's dog-friendly. It holds VisitEngland Silver and Breakfast awards. It's 4.3 on Google from about 1,300 reviews.

The entry rooms are small (10 square metres for a single, 12 for the Classic double) and some have an open shower and sink in the room. It sits between stations: eight minutes to Bayswater, ten to Paddington and Lancaster Gate. The Double Room Classic was £220 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, and breakfast at £28 is better pre-booked.

Tip

Book the Double Classic Garden (12 sq m, overlooking Queen's Gardens) or trade up to a Double Deluxe (16 sq m); the cheapest rooms face the quieter back. The hotel says the listed building has some accessibility challenges. Bayswater station is an eight-minute walk.

The Roman mosaics are just like those in the British Museum and were a great talking point during breakfast. from a visitor review

Vancouver Hotel & Studios

Vancouver Hotel & Studios is the characterful cheap option on Prince's Square: a family-owned townhouse that has been a hotel for about a hundred years, with kitchens in the studios, a private garden, a free gym, a guest laundry and a 24-hour reception. It's five minutes from Bayswater station and eight from Kensington Gardens. It's 4.4 on Google from about 350 reviews.

There's no lift, only the original staircase, and the smallest studios have little room for big cases. Reviewers mention hard pillows. At £120 (before any extra charges Booking.com flagged) for a double with its own bathroom on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, with free cancellation, it's still excellent value for Zone 1.

Urbany Hostel London

Urbany Hostel is for solo travellers and young couples: a social hostel on Prince's Square with dorms of four to eight, private doubles, a guest kitchen, a 24-hour desk and free luggage storage before check-in. It only takes guests aged 18 to 40. It's 4.5 on Google from about 420 reviews.

Every bathroom is shared and outside the rooms, including for the private double (£109 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November), and the bunks have no privacy curtains. Paddington is a 20-minute walk, so take the Tube from Bayswater.

Onefam Notting Hill

Onefam Notting Hill is Urbany's livelier neighbour on Prince's Square: a party hostel in a 19th-century house that runs free walking tours, a free dinner on many nights, drinking games and a night out together. As well as dorms it sells a private double and a private twin, and there's a shared kitchen, a terrace and a 24-hour desk. Bayswater station is eight minutes' walk, Kensington Gardens ten and Paddington 22. It's 4.3 on Google from about 1,000 reviews.

It only takes guests aged 18 to 36, and the hostel itself says to book only if you want to meet people and party. There are five floors and no lift, and Booking.com lists the double with a shared bathroom. On the hostel's own site the private double was £65.45 non-refundable for Tuesday 10 November (£90 on Booking.com), the cheapest private room on this page.

── the quick answer

Which Paddington or Bayswater hotel, by traveller

Straight off a Heathrow flight: the Hilton London Paddington (a direct entrance from the station) or the Premier Inn across the road (£202). For more character, the Pilgrm or Hotel Indigo, two minutes from the platforms.

Hyde Park on the doorstep: the Royal Lancaster, across from Victoria Gate, or the Thistle and the Hilton London Hyde Park facing Kensington Gardens on Bayswater Road.

Families: Wilde's one-bedroom apartments on Paddington Basin, the Royal Lancaster's guaranteed interconnecting rooms, the Novotel for its pool, or on a budget the Darlington's quads and the Athena's five-bed room on Sussex Gardens.

Couples: Roseate House for a boutique townhouse, the Caesar for something different, or the Best Western Plus Delmere to keep the cost down. For a spa splurge, Six Senses London in the old Whiteleys store.

Tight budget: NOX Hyde Park (£119), Vancouver Hotel & Studios (£120), Lancaster Hall (£121) or, for 18 to 40-year-olds, a private room at Urbany Hostel (£109). Younger and after a party: Onefam Notting Hill (£65.45 direct, 18 to 36 only).

A week or more: the Westbourne Hyde Park's studios or Wilde, both with kitchens.

── the honest trade-offs

What each patch gives up

By the station and the Basin: the fastest Heathrow transfer, but Praed Street and Edgware Road are noisy, busy and plain, and Paddington Basin is an office district.

Sussex Gardens: low prices and a five-minute walk to the trains, but most of the hotels are tired, and many lack a lift, air conditioning or windows in the lower rooms.

Lancaster Gate: the prettiest streets and the park five minutes away, but fewer cheap rooms, and the Central line rather than the Heathrow trains on the doorstep.

Bayswater and Queensway: Kensington Gardens, restaurants and lower prices, but 10 to 22 minutes' walk to Paddington with luggage, and a lot of small townhouse rooms without lifts.

── before you book

Prices, rooms and arriving from Heathrow

Almost every rate above is Booking.com's public price for the same night, so compare it with the hotel's own site before you pay: several hotels here add breakfast free for direct bookings (Point A, La Suite West, Lancaster Hall, the Athena), and the Darlington's own tariff starts doubles at £129. Onefam's private double was £65.45 direct against £90 on Booking.com.

Check three things on any townhouse hotel in this area: whether there's a lift that reaches your floor, whether the room has air conditioning (the Pilgrm, the Darlington, the Athena and Lancaster Hall's standard rooms don't), and whether the cheapest room is in the basement or has no window. Book the Heathrow Express 30 days ahead for fares from £10, or tap in with contactless on the Elizabeth line.

To budget the rest of the trip, see the London trip-cost guide, and if you'd rather be in Mayfair, the grand hotels are further east along the park in the Mayfair hotels guide.

── frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is Paddington a good area to stay in London?
Yes, if you're flying into Heathrow or want to be by Hyde Park, and it's one of the cheaper parts of Zone 1. Paddington station has the Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line and four Tube lines (Bakerloo, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City), and the park is five to ten minutes' walk south. It isn't pretty around the station itself, and the West End sights are a Tube ride rather than a walk. On Tuesday 10 November 2026 a double ran from £65.45 (a private room at Onefam Notting Hill, booked direct) and £119 at NOX Hyde Park to £859 at Six Senses London; the Premier Inn by the station was £202 and the Royal Lancaster £317.
How do I get from Heathrow to Paddington, and which hotels are closest to the station?
The Heathrow Express takes 15 minutes from Terminals 2 and 3 (21 from Terminal 5) and costs from £10 booked 30 days ahead or £26 on the day; the Elizabeth line takes 28 minutes and is much cheaper on contactless. Of the hotels in this guide, the closest by Google's walking time to the station are the Hilton London Paddington (1 minute, with a direct entrance), the Pilgrm and Hotel Indigo (2), the Premier Inn London Paddington (3), Stylotel (4) and the Mercure London Hyde Park, the Best Western Plus Delmere, the Athena and Roseate House (5).
Which hotels are closest to Hyde Park?
Of the hotels in this guide, the Hilton London Hyde Park is closest: across the road from Black Lion Gate into Kensington Gardens, next to Queensway station. The Royal Lancaster and the Thistle London Hyde Park Kensington Gardens are four minutes from a gate, the Westbourne Hyde Park and La Suite West five, and Roseate House and Lancaster Hall six. Hotels named 'Hyde Park' on Sussex Gardens are usually seven to ten minutes away. Times are Google walking estimates to the nearest park gate.
Are the hotels on Sussex Gardens any good?
A few are, most are tired. Of the 34 hotels on Sussex Gardens with at least 50 Google reviews, only four rate 4.0 or above (the Delmere, the Darlington, the Athena and the Grand Concerto) and 14 sit below 3.5 (September 2026). The ones worth booking are the Best Western Plus Delmere (4.3) for couples, The Darlington Hyde Park (4.2) and the Athena (4.2) for families, and Stylotel (3.9) for its included breakfast. Before booking any hotel on the street, check for a lift, air conditioning and whether your room is in the basement.
Is Bayswater a good place to stay?
Yes, for Kensington Gardens, a quieter residential feel and lower prices: NOX Hyde Park was £119 and London House Hotel £160 for a double on Tuesday 10 November 2026. Queensway (Central line) and Bayswater (Circle and District) stations are on its doorstep, and Queensway is lined with restaurants. The trade-off is Heathrow: Paddington is 13 to 20 minutes on foot from most Bayswater hotels, so take a Circle or District line train one stop to Bayswater, or a taxi.
