Where to Stay in Notting Hill: The Best Hotels & Townhouses (2026)

The 12 Notting Hill places to stay I'd book, grouped by where you'd wake up: on Portobello Road, by Notting Hill Gate station, in Holland Park and up at Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park, each with a dated rate, walking minutes to the Tube and the market, and one honest catch.

Where to stay in Notting Hill Portobello Road on the doorstep, the Central line round the corner

Stay in Notting Hill for the neighbourhood: the pastel terraces off Portobello Road, the Saturday antiques market, the pubs and Holland Park, with the Central line at Notting Hill Gate taking you to Oxford Circus in about nine minutes. Skip it if you want lots of hotel choice, big rooms or step-free access. There are only a dozen places here I'd send anyone to, most of them small townhouses with stairs, and none is a big luxury hotel. My short answer: the Portobello Hotel for a couple who want the full Notting Hill experience, the Laslett for families and anyone who wants lifts and a restaurant, Ruby Zoe for a modern hotel by the station, and Notting Hill House or the Notting Hill Gate Hotel on a budget. To compare Notting Hill with the rest of London first, start with the where to stay in London guide.

The page runs from the market outwards. First Portobello Road and Westbourne Grove, then Notting Hill Gate and Pembridge Gardens by the station, then Holland Park to the west, and last Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park to the north. Every place has its nearest subway (the Tube) station and line, Google's walking minutes to it, to Notting Hill Gate station and to Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove, where the Saturday antiques stalls are, its Google rating, a dated price, one real drawback and a room tip. East of Pembridge Square the streets turn into Bayswater, covered in the Paddington and Bayswater hotels guide; south, past the park, is Kensington.

About the prices: each one is the cheapest rate for two adults on the same ordinary night, Tuesday 10 November 2026, on the hotel's own booking site, including VAT (London has no hotel tax as of 2026), and several are non-refundable, so the flexible rate is given alongside. Saturday is market day, and most places cost more then (the Laslett's Double Bedroom was £40 more, the Princess Royal £50 more, Notting Hill House half as much again), a few don't, and several won't sell a single Saturday night. The one date to plan around is Carnival, over the August bank holiday weekend (next on 29 and 30 August 2027), when the parade and sound systems fill the streets, the market shuts on the Monday and the smaller hotels can set minimum stays; book early or avoid it.

The Portobello Hotel

Portobello Road and Westbourne Grove. This is the Notting Hill people picture: the pastel houses, the antiques arcades and the stalls that run for about a mile up Portobello Road on Fridays and Saturdays. Hotels are few and small here, and the Tube is a walk away (Notting Hill Gate for the Central, Circle and District lines, or Ladbroke Grove further north), but you step out into the market.

The Portobello Hotel is the one I'd book for the neighbourhood itself. Musicians, models and actors have been checking in to this Stanley Gardens townhouse since it opened in 1971, and its 21 rooms still play the part, with a circular bed in Room 16, a canopy bed and a four-poster among the bigger rooms and an honesty bar in the Sitting Room. There's a lift, which the small townhouses around here often lack. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove, where the Saturday antiques stalls start, is three minutes on foot. It's 4.4 on Google from about 190 reviews.

It isn't a hotel for families or for one-night Saturdays. The reservation rules allow two people per room, with a child counting as one of them, and a Saturday stay needs two nights (three over some bank holidays). You eat breakfast in the Sitting Room or in bed, since there's no restaurant, and the 15-square-metre Good Rooms at the front are compact. The garden the best rooms look over belongs to the neighbours. A Good Room was £301 room only for Tuesday 10 November on the hotel's own site, and a Saturday-Sunday stay worked out at £303.50 a night, so market weekends cost barely more here.

Tip

Ask for a garden-facing Marvellous, Outstanding or Best room, as only some of them overlook the gardens at the back; the Good Rooms face the street. Every room is for two people at most (children count as adults). Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 9 minutes on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 3 minutes.

Staff are always lovely too, and there’s a lift if you overpack like me (as not all the smaller boutique hotels have lifts)! from a visitor review

The Lost Poet

The Lost Poet is four rooms in a Victorian townhouse at the bottom of Portobello Road, done up with wood panelling reclaimed from old school science labs, and breakfast from local bakeries brought to your room each morning. It suits a couple who want to be on Portobello Road itself and don't need a hotel lobby. Notting Hill Gate station is four minutes' walk and Westbourne Grove six. It's 4.9 on Google from about 120 reviews.

It runs like a private house. Check-in is online with a keyless app, the concierge is there from 9am to 5pm only, and the house warns that its stairs are authentically narrow and no good for big cases. With four rooms, the cheaper ones go first: The Quarters, the most compact, was £250 with breakfast for Tuesday 10 November on its own site, but for the Saturday the cheapest room left was The Suite, at £380.

Tip

The stairs are narrow and there's no lift, so book The Quarters (ground floor, window seat onto Portobello Road) if you have heavy bags, or The Muse for its private roof terrace. Children must be 12 or over. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 4 minutes on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 6 minutes.

Delicious breakfast delivered to your room daily. Only advice I have is heed their warnings on packing heavy, as Muse is on top floor. from a visitor review

The Princess Royal

The Princess Royal is a smart pub with four bedrooms above it, run by Cubitt House, on Hereford Road between Westbourne Grove and Bayswater. Downstairs there's a horseshoe bar, a dining room and conservatory and two garden terraces; upstairs the Double Rooms have king beds. It's for a couple who like the idea of a pub supper and a short walk to bed. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove is ten minutes away, Bayswater station (Circle and District lines) 11. The pub is 4.4 on Google from about 690 reviews.

The catches are the pub and the terms. The bedrooms sit over a busy bar, the Google reviews are almost all about the food and drink rather than the rooms, breakfast is £25 each on top, and the flexible rate still takes a non-refundable deposit 14 days out. The Double Room was £260 room only for Tuesday 10 November on its own site and £310 on the Saturday.

Tip

Book the Double Room (king bed) over the Cosy Double if you want space, and add breakfast downstairs at £25 each. Dogs under 15 kg are welcome for £20. The hotel doesn't mention a lift, so ask if stairs are a problem. Nearest Tube: Bayswater (Circle and District lines), 11 minutes on foot. Notting Hill Serviced Apartments by Concept Apartments

Notting Hill Serviced Apartments is a building of self-catering studios and one-bedroom flats at 74 Ladbroke Grove, run by Concept Apartments, with kitchenettes, weekly cleaning and a coin-operated washer and dryer. It suits a couple on a budget who'd rather cook breakfast than pay for it, seven minutes from the Westbourne Grove end of the market. Ladbroke Grove station (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines) is six minutes away. It's 3.8 on Google from 80 reviews.

That score has a reason: Ladbroke Grove is a busy road, and reviewers on the street side complain about road noise and no secondary glazing. There are stairs and no staffed reception. The Top Floor One Bedroom was £125.55 non-refundable (£135 refundable) for Tuesday 10 November on Concept's own site, a lot less than Booking.com's public price for the same flat that night.

Tip

Ask for the top-floor one-bedroom, which has a small terrace and a bedroom at the back, away from the traffic on Ladbroke Grove. Apartments take two people, with no cots or extra beds. Nearest Tube: Ladbroke Grove (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines), 6 minutes on foot. Notting Hill Gate station: 16 minutes; Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 7 minutes.

The Laslett

Notting Hill Gate and Pembridge Gardens. The practical end of Notting Hill. Notting Hill Gate station has the Central line (straight through the West End to Oxford Circus and the City) plus the Circle and District lines, and the quiet stucco streets just north of it, Pembridge Gardens and Pembridge Square, are where most of the area's guest rooms are. Portobello Road starts a few minutes' walk away. Notting Hill Gate itself is a busy main road of shops and buses.

The Laslett is the all-rounder, and its name comes from the neighbourhood's own history. Rhaune Laslett organised the 1966 street festival that became the Carnival, and the steelpan player who played at it, Russ Henderson, gives his name to the hotel's bar and kitchen. The hotel itself joins five listed townhouses on Pembridge Gardens into 50 rooms, with two lifts, a 24-hour desk, a treatment room downstairs and a welcome for dogs, a minute from the station. It's 4.5 on Google from about 420 reviews.

It isn't cheap for the room size. A Spare Room Double (18 to 19 square metres) was £270 pre-paid for Tuesday 10 November on the hotel's own site, or £337 flexible, and breakfast adds £52 for two. Saturdays cost more: the next room up was £308 on the Tuesday and £348 on Saturday 14 November. One reviewer found the rooms tired, and there's no on-site parking.

Tip

Families should ask for connecting rooms (a Master Bedroom Double with a Spare Room Double), or a cot or single bed in a Master Bedroom; there are no twin rooms. Two lifts reach all five floors. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 1 minute on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 11 minutes.

The staff were incredibly gracious and accommodating with our little one and our extensive gear. from a visitor review

Ruby Zoe Hotel London

Ruby Zoe is the modern choice and good value this close to the station: a design hotel on Notting Hill Gate with a carnival-and-vintage theme, a 24-hour bar with pizzas and cocktails, quiet air conditioning and rainfall showers in every room. Notting Hill Gate station is four minutes' walk and Holland Park station five. It's 4.7 on Google from about 1,400 reviews.

The rooms are small (the Nest is 15 to 16 square metres, and one reviewer called their room one of the smallest of a two-week trip), check-in is self-service, and there's no room service or minibar by design. Breakfast is extra. A Nest Room was £221 for Tuesday 10 November on IHG's site, £200 for members. It's one of the few places here where Saturday was cheaper: £210 for a Cosy Room against £231 on the Tuesday.

Tip

Nest Rooms are the smallest, so pay a little more for a Cosy (16 to 20 sq m) if you'll unpack for several nights. Dogs are allowed only in the Wow Rooms (£30 a stay). You must be 18 to check in. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 4 minutes on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 11 minutes.

Notting Hill House

Notting Hill House is a listed 1850s house on Pembridge Gardens turned into self-catering studios in 2022, each with a kitchenette, an en-suite shower room and a desk. The building has a real history: from 1971 it housed the Bangladesh Mission, where the Bangladeshi flag was first raised in the UK. It's two minutes from Notting Hill Gate station, and it gives you a kitchen and a private shower room two minutes from the Tube for about £133. It's 4.1 on Google from about 40 reviews.

It's a budget stay with the service to match. Reception is unstaffed and self-check-in, there's no lift, the entrance steps have no handrail, and reviewers found the portable air-con units basic and noisy. A Lower Ground Floor Studio was £132.97 non-refundable (£144.05 flexible) for Tuesday 10 November on its own site. The same studio cost half as much again on Saturday 14 November.

Tip

Book on the house's own site, which was far cheaper than Booking.com for the same night. There's no lift, the entrance has stone steps, and every studio is up or down stairs; the top-floor ones get hot in summer. The Family Studio sleeps four in one room. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 2 minutes on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 9 minutes.

Good shower and nice mini kitchen facilities! Check-in was straightforward. from a visitor review

Notting Hill Gate Hotel

Notting Hill Gate Hotel is the budget family pick: a plain Victorian townhouse hotel on Clanricarde Gardens, a side street four minutes from the station, with en-suite triples, quads and a family room for five. For a family on a budget, those rooms are the draw, because the boutique hotels around here take two people per room. It's 3.6 on Google from about 800 reviews.

Set expectations low on the rooms. Reviewers describe them as small and dated, say there's no lift, and are hardest on the basement rooms. On Tuesday 10 November the doubles had sold out on the hotel's own site, and a Triple was £89.30 non-refundable (£94.05 with free cancellation); the Family room was £131. Saturday 14 November needed a two-night stay.

Tip

Families should book the Family room, which sleeps five (two doubles and a single). Reviewers say there's no lift and single out the basement rooms, so ask for a room above ground if you can manage the stairs. Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate (Central, Circle and District lines), 4 minutes on foot. Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 15 minutes.

Ravna Gora

Holland Park. West of Notting Hill Gate, Holland Park Avenue runs past some of London's grandest villas to Holland Park itself, with its semi-wild woodland, the Kyoto Garden and free-roaming peacocks. Holland Park station is on the Central line. It's quieter and greener than Notting Hill proper, with Portobello Road 13 to 22 minutes' walk away, and the two places here I'd send you to are both at the budget end.

Ravna Gora is an independent hotel in a big Victorian-style house on Holland Park Avenue, two minutes from Holland Park station, with a bar, a sitting room, a buffet breakfast room and rooms from shared-bathroom singles up to en-suite quads. It's 4.1 on Google from about 550 reviews.

The building shows its age: reviewers mention soft old mattresses, and single-glazed windows onto a busy main road. The cheapest rooms share bathrooms. On Tuesday 10 November the only room for two left on its own site was a Basic Triple with a shared bathroom at £99, and a Saturday on its own couldn't be booked at all.

Tip

Book early for an en-suite room: the cheapest rooms share bathrooms, and the Double Ensuite is only 10 sq m. Front rooms look over Holland Park Avenue but can't be guaranteed, and they're the noisy side. Parking at the back is £20 a day, first come, first served. The hotel doesn't mention a lift, so ask if stairs are a problem. Nearest Tube: Holland Park (Central line), 2 minutes on foot. Notting Hill Gate station: 8 minutes; Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: 13 minutes.

Safestay London Kensington Holland Park

Safestay London Kensington Holland Park (formerly YHA London Holland Park, which has left the YHA network) is a hostel in the east wing of a Jacobean mansion begun in 1605 as Cope Castle, later Holland House, inside the park itself. There are private doubles and family rooms as well as dorms, a café, a courtyard garden and a 24-hour reception. For the price of a pub lunch you wake up inside Holland Park, about ten minutes' walk through the park from the station.

Its 3.5 on Google from about 2,400 reviews is fair warning. Recent reviewers complain that rooms overheat with no fans, and one reported bed bugs, so it's for travellers to whom price matters more than anything. A Double Room Ensuite was about £40 for Tuesday 10 November on the hostel's own booking page, with breakfast about £8 more.

Notting Hill Gate station: about 16 minutes; Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove: about 22 minutes.

We found this quiet little hostel and were surprised by the very central location, especially for the price we had paid. from a visitor review

The Knight of Notting Hill

Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. North of the antiques stretch, Portobello Road turns into the food, vintage-clothes and bric-a-brac end of the market, under the Westway flyover, with Golborne Road beyond. It's scruffier and livelier, and Friday is Golborne Road's busiest day. Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park stations are on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, which are slower into the West End: Google puts Ladbroke Grove about 26 minutes from Oxford Circus by Tube, against 9 from Notting Hill Gate.

The Knight of Notting Hill is a pub with king rooms upstairs, next to Ladbroke Grove station, serving Indian and British food with cocktails and live music. The rooms have air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. It's for night owls: you're a minute from the station and 11 from Westbourne Grove. The pub is 4.4 on Google from about 360 reviews.

Almost all of those reviews are about the pub, not the rooms, and the live music is right below you. Breakfast isn't included. The King Room was £250 on a flexible rate for Tuesday 10 November on its own site, and exactly the same on the Saturday.

Mason & Fifth, Westbourne Park

Mason & Fifth, Westbourne Park is a 332-studio aparthotel in the former London taxi drivers' headquarters, with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and 24-hour gym, a tenth-floor lounge, a canal-side restaurant and kitchens in most studios. It's the pick for a longer stay or anyone who wants a pool, and it's 4.6 on Google from about 390 reviews.

It's on the edge of the area: six minutes to Westbourne Park station, 21 to Portobello Road at Westbourne Grove and nearly half an hour to Notting Hill Gate, and the studios are compact (one reviewer couldn't walk round the bed). The pool is adults-only outside family swim times. An Out & About studio was £214.17 non-refundable without breakfast for Tuesday 10 November on its own site, or £237.97 flexible with breakfast.

── the quick answer

Which Notting Hill hotel, by traveller

A couple who want the Notting Hill of the films: the Portobello Hotel on Stanley Gardens, or the Lost Poet on Portobello Road itself if you pack light.

Families: the Laslett for connecting rooms and lifts by the station; on a budget, the Notting Hill Gate Hotel's family room for five.

A modern hotel by the Tube: Ruby Zoe (£221), four minutes from Notting Hill Gate, with air conditioning and a 24-hour bar.

A pub with rooms: the Princess Royal for dinner and bed off Westbourne Grove, or the Knight of Notting Hill if you want the live music.

Tight budget: Safestay in Holland Park (about £40), Ravna Gora (£99 with a shared bathroom) or the Notting Hill Gate Hotel's triple (£89).

A week or more: Notting Hill House or the Concept apartments for a kitchen, or Mason & Fifth for a kitchen plus a pool and gym.

── the honest trade-offs

What each patch gives up

Portobello Road and Westbourne Grove: the market on your doorstep, but market-day crowds, few rooms, and a nine-minute walk from the station for the Portobello Hotel.

Notting Hill Gate and Pembridge Gardens: the Central line in a minute or four, but Notting Hill Gate is a busy main road, and the townhouse rooms around it are small and often up several flights of stairs.

Holland Park: the park and quiet streets, but only budget options with mixed reviews, and 13 to 22 minutes' walk to the market.

Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park: the food and vintage end of the market, but the slower Circle and Hammersmith & City lines and a longer walk to Notting Hill Gate.

── before you book

Rooms, stairs and market weekends

Every rate above came from the hotel's own site, and several were much cheaper there than on Booking.com for the same room (Notting Hill House's studio for Tuesday 10 November was £259 on Booking.com and £133 direct). The small places here set their own rules, so read them: the Portobello Hotel wants two nights on a Saturday (and the Notting Hill Gate Hotel wanted two for Saturday 14 November), the Lost Poet takes no under-12s, and the Princess Royal takes a non-refundable deposit 14 days before arrival.

Check three things on any townhouse: whether there's a lift (the Lost Poet, Notting Hill House and, by reviewers' accounts, the Notting Hill Gate Hotel have none), whether the room has air conditioning, and whether the cheapest room is in the basement or shares a bathroom. For Saturday's antiques, be at the Westbourne Grove end before 10am.

── frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is Notting Hill a good area to stay in London?
Yes, if you want a neighbourhood more than a base: pastel terraces, Portobello Road market, good pubs and Holland Park, with Notting Hill Gate station (Central, Circle and District lines) nine minutes from Oxford Circus by Tube. The trade-offs are few hotels, small rooms, lots of stairs, and crowds on market Saturdays. On Tuesday 10 November 2026 a room for two ran from about £40 at the Safestay hostel in Holland Park and £89 at the Notting Hill Gate Hotel to £270 at the Laslett and £301 at the Portobello Hotel.
How far is Notting Hill from central London?
Close, if you stay near the Central line. From Notting Hill Gate, Google Maps puts a weekday-morning Tube ride at 9 minutes to Oxford Circus, 16 to Westminster and 21 to Bank, and Paddington (for the Heathrow Express) is 7 minutes away. Hotels near Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park are on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines instead, which take about 26 minutes from Ladbroke Grove to Oxford Circus.
What days is Portobello Road market on?
The full street market trades on Fridays and Saturdays, when the stalls run about a mile up Portobello Road and round into Golborne Road. Saturday is the busiest day and the only day the antiques arcades between Chepstow Villas and Westbourne Grove open, most from 7am to about 4pm. Monday to Thursday there's a smaller fruit, veg and household market, and on ordinary Sundays there's no street market, though Portobello Green's vintage stalls and the Acklam food market open. The street market is closed on bank holidays except Good Friday.
Should I stay in Notting Hill during the Carnival?
Only if you're going to the Carnival. It takes over the streets on the August bank holiday weekend (the 2027 dates are Sunday 29 and Monday 30 August, with the Panorama steel band contest on Saturday 28 August), the parade and sound systems fill the streets, Portobello Road market closes on the Monday, and some hotels ask for minimum stays over bank holidays (the Portobello Hotel can ask for three nights). Book early if you're going, and avoid that weekend if you're not.
Which Notting Hill hotel is best for families?
The Laslett, for connecting rooms, cots and two lifts, one minute from Notting Hill Gate station. On a budget, the Notting Hill Gate Hotel has a family room sleeping five and Notting Hill House has a studio that sleeps four in one room, though Notting Hill House has no lift and reviewers say the Notting Hill Gate Hotel doesn't either. The Portobello Hotel and the Lost Poet aren't for families: the Portobello takes two people per room and the Lost Poet takes no children under 12.
