Gatwick is in West Sussex, about 28 miles (45 km) south of central London, so a hotel here is for the flight, not for London. It earns its money when you're checking in before the first trains, landing after the last ones, or leaving a car for a fortnight. For a London trip, sleep in town: the Gatwick Express reaches Victoria in about 31 minutes and Thameslink runs to London Bridge in about 29, so the Victoria and Westminster hotels do the same job with the city outside the door. Where to stay in London weighs up the neighbourhoods, and if you're flying from the other airport, see the Heathrow hotels. My short answer at Gatwick itself: the Sofitel to walk to a North Terminal check-in, Bloc for the shortest walk to South Terminal security, the Premier Inn North Terminal as the budget bed a short walk from check-in (with breakfast from 4am), and the Holiday Inn on Povey Cross Road or the Gatwick Turret in Horley for a cheap park-and-fly.
Check your terminal before you choose. Gatwick has two, North and South, joined by a free shuttle train that takes about two minutes and runs all night, and the railway station is at the South Terminal. The guide follows that split: the North Terminal hotels (walkway or a road to cross), then the South Terminal ones (inside the building or on a walkway), then the hotels seven to eleven minutes' drive away on Povey Cross Road and in Crawley, three small hotels and guest houses in Horley near the station one stop up the line, and one country house. For each hotel you get the way to the terminal and how long Google says it takes, the shuttle fare the hotel publishes, parking details and any park-and-fly package, breakfast where the hotel publishes it, what to watch out for and a dated price.
Every price is a one-night rate for two sharing a room on Tuesday 10 November 2026, taken from the hotel's own booking site on 25 September 2026 (or from Booking.com where a card says so), with 20 per cent VAT included, and they run from £39.99 at the Travelodge to £171 at the Crowne Plaza. They're for comparing hotels, not quotes: Gatwick is at its busiest in the summer and the school holidays, and airport rates climb with it, so check your own night and book early for August.
