Where to Stay in Covent Garden: The 25 Best Hotels in London's West End (2026)

The 25 best hotels in Covent Garden and the West End, grouped by street from Seven Dials to Trafalgar Square: a townhouse by Kit Kemp, the Savoy and One Aldwych, a Philippe Starck hotel beside the Coliseum, apartments with kitchens off the Strand, and budget beds from about £195.

Where to stay in Covent Garden 25 hotels, street by street, with the walk to the Piazza and to Trafalgar Square

Stay in Covent Garden if it's your first time in London, if you're here for the theatre, or if you want to walk out of the door into most of what you came for. Every hotel below is within a 14-minute walk of the Covent Garden Piazza and 16 minutes of Trafalgar Square, and the two are about ten minutes apart. Don't stay here if you're a light sleeper who dreads a Friday night, if you want space for your money, or if you'd rather be somewhere residential: the rooms are small, the prices are high for the space, and the streets stay busy until the theatres empty and beyond. My short answer: One Aldwych or the Covent Garden Hotel for a splurge; Strand Palace, The Resident or the Trafalgar St. James for a proper hotel at a fairer price; the Z Hotel, Premier Inn London Leicester Square or Assembly for a budget bed. The where to stay in London guide compares Covent Garden with every other area.

The area splits into four patches that feel different at midnight, and the 25 hotels are grouped that way: Covent Garden and Seven Dials around the Piazza, the Strand and the Aldwych on the river side, St Martin's Lane and Leicester Square in the thick of theatreland, and Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross at the calmer southern edge. For each hotel you get Google's door-to-door walking time to the Piazza and to Trafalgar Square, the nearest station on the Tube (the subway), which theatres are within five minutes, a dated rate, the honest catch, and a room to ask for. It's all Zone 1, and Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Holborn are on the Piccadilly line, which runs direct to Heathrow. Soho starts on the far side of Charing Cross Road, and Holborn and Bloomsbury east of Kingsway.

A word on prices before you compare them. Every rate below is for one night, Tuesday 10 November 2026, for two people, checked in September 2026 on the hotel's own booking engine unless the card says Booking.com, and each card gives the date it was checked. They include VAT (Club Quarters' engine shows prices before tax, so check its total), and London has no tourist tax yet, but the Covent Garden Hotel and One Aldwych add a discretionary 5% service charge. Treat them as a way to compare hotels, not a quote. West End rates climb in the Christmas-lights weeks from mid-November to New Year, over the Wimbledon fortnight and the school summer holidays, and usually at weekends; January and February are the cheapest months. For summer, book three to six months out.

Covent Garden Hotel

Covent Garden and Seven Dials: the Piazza, Bow Street and Monmouth Street. The streets around the old market and up to the Seven Dials sundial are the middle of it all: the Royal Opera House, the Donmar, a restaurant on every corner. Covent Garden Hotel is the one I'd book here if money isn't the question. It's Firmdale's 58-room townhouse on Monmouth Street, decorated by Kit Kemp, with Brasserie Max on the ground floor, a first-floor library and drawing room with an honesty bar, a screening room and a gym. The Piazza is seven minutes on foot, Trafalgar Square eleven and Covent Garden station (Piccadilly line) four. The Cambridge Theatre is a minute from the door, the Donmar Warehouse two, and the Ambassadors, the Shaftesbury and St Martin's, home of The Mousetrap, three.

It's priced like what it is. The cheapest room on Tuesday 10 November was a 23 sq m Queen at £660, flexible and room only, and the hotel adds a discretionary 5% service charge on top; breakfast is extra. Queen rooms have a walk-in shower only, and the Superior (about 32 sq m, from about £774) is the first category with a bath, so ask for one if you want a soak after a long day. The hotel publishes no lift or step-free statement of its own, so email Firmdale's accessibility team before booking if stairs matter. Dogs are welcome to stay.

NoMad London

NoMad London is the grand one on Bow Street, directly across the road from the Royal Opera House: 91 rooms and suites designed by Roman and Williams, marble mosaic bathrooms, room names like the Magistrate King Suite that nod to the building's past, and the Side Hustle bar and The Library bar. Hilton owns it now and it books through hilton.com. Covent Garden station is two minutes away, the Piazza three and Trafalgar Square thirteen, with Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the Fortune two minutes off. For a night at the opera or the ballet, you're directly across the road.

For 10 November the cheapest room was a Classic Premier King at £528, with breakfast extra. Hilton's page shows that from-price before the cancellation terms, so check whether you're buying a refundable rate before you pay. The room to ask for is the Opera View King Salon (£721), which looks across at the Opera House. An accessible Classic King costs the same as the standard room, and there are pet-friendly rooms.

This hotel has a boutique feel, the rooms have a unique vibe and it was clean and spacious. from a visitor review

Henrietta Experimental

Henrietta Experimental, the Henrietta Hotel until its rebrand, is 40 rooms across two Georgian buildings on Henrietta Street, a side street off the Piazza, designed by Dorothée Meilichzon for the Experimental Group, with Jackson Boxer's French bistro Henri on the ground floor. It's the small, stylish pick for a couple. The Piazza is three minutes away, Trafalgar Square eight, and Covent Garden, Charing Cross and Leicester Square stations four or five. The London Eye rooms have their own private terraces.

The entry rooms are small. The Standard King is 17 sq m and faces Henrietta Street or the church; Booking.com had it at £419 non-refundable for 10 November (£428 with free cancellation), with breakfast about £24 on top. There's no parking. For a quieter night ask for a room on the courtyard or the churchyard of St Paul's: the Covent Garden Superior, the Henrietta Executive or the Saint Paul Executive, 20 to 30 sq m.

Radisson Blu Hotel, London Mercer Street

Radisson Blu Hotel, London Mercer Street is the dependable four-star in Seven Dials: modern rooms, the Monmouth Kitchen restaurant and a gym open around the clock. It suits a theatre weekend or a work trip where you want a proper hotel without the Firmdale bill. The Piazza is eight minutes on foot, Trafalgar Square eleven and Leicester Square station (Northern and Piccadilly lines) four, and six theatres are within three minutes: the Cambridge, the Donmar, the Ambassadors, the Palace, the Phoenix and St Martin's. It holds a 4.5 on Google from about 1,200 reviews.

For 10 November the cheapest double bed on Booking.com was a Deluxe King at £496 non-refundable (£521 with free cancellation), with breakfast £29 extra. The entry Superior rooms are about 18 sq m and sold as twins for only about £26 less, so go straight to the Deluxe King. The catch is space: a regular guest calls the rooms standard-sized for London, and breakfast isn't included. Check-in is 3pm, and early arrival is on request.

Middle Eight

Middle Eight is the old Kingsway Hall Hotel, relaunched on Great Queen Street at the Holborn end of Covent Garden, with the Sycamore restaurant and bar, the small QT Bar, air-conditioning in every room and a 24-hour reception. It's the pick for Covent Garden with a calmer edge: Holborn station (Central and Piccadilly lines) is three minutes away, the Piazza eight, and the Gillian Lynne Theatre three. Trafalgar Square is sixteen minutes, the longest walk of any hotel here, so this is the one to book if your days point east towards the British Museum and the City as much as west to the theatres.

Compare before you book. On its own site the cheapest rate for 10 November was £607 for a 17 to 20 sq m Classic, and that's a members' advance-purchase rate (free to join, non-refundable, deposit up front); Booking.com had the same room at £564. The Executive rooms (27 to 35 sq m, from £671) are the first the hotel describes as light-filled, with a super-king that splits into twins. Dog-friendly rooms are available on request for a charge.

Tip

Ask for an Executive room (27 to 35 sq m) for light and a zip-and-link bed that splits into twins. Dog-friendly rooms on request, for a charge.

Hotel AMANO Covent Garden

Hotel AMANO Covent Garden is the Berlin group's London hotel in Drury House on Russell Street, three minutes from the Piazza: Penelope's restaurant on the ground floor, a rooftop bar, a basement bar with DJs, digital check-in and soundproof windows in every room. It's the one for friends who want the night out to start in the lift. The Fortune Theatre is a minute away, the Aldwych and Theatre Royal Drury Lane two, and Covent Garden station five. Trafalgar Square is fourteen minutes.

The rooms are the catch. The Cosy is 13 sq m and the Comfy 15; for 10 November Booking.com had a Cosy with breakfast at £321 non-refundable, or a room-only Comfy with free cancellation at £332 (breakfast is £20). With two cases, go up to a Roomy (20 sq m) or the Goldy (23 sq m, with a gold bathtub), or ask for a Comfy with a balcony. Dogs stay for £15 a night, there are two fully accessible rooms, and there's no car park.

Expensive for a 4 star but it doesn’t pretend to be anything more. You’re paying mostly for location. from a visitor review

The Fielding Hotel

The Fielding Hotel is the small, old-fashioned choice: a room-only townhouse on Broad Court, a pedestrian court off Bow Street, named after the novelist Henry Fielding and facing the Royal Opera House. Covent Garden station is three minutes away, the Piazza four, the Opera House one, and Trafalgar Square thirteen. It suits a couple on a theatre trip who'll eat out anyway, and families can take a Queen/Family room (a double plus a sofa bed) or one of the two flats next door, which sleep up to four adults.

Know what it doesn't do. There is no lift across five floors, so ask for the ground or first floor if stairs are hard, and there's no breakfast or food of any kind, and no pets. For 10 November Booking.com had the double at £203 non-refundable or £225 flexible. Ask for Room 3 or Room 42 if you want a bath, and avoid Room 43, the family room with no window. Google reviewers are warmer about the location than the fittings (4.1).

Tip

No lift: ask for a ground- or first-floor room if stairs are hard. Rooms 3 and 42 are the doubles with a bath; Room 43 (Queen/Family) has no window. No food served, no pets.

Travelodge London Covent Garden

Travelodge London Covent Garden is the no-frills option at the top of Drury Lane, where it meets High Holborn: staffed 24 hours, air-conditioned, a Bar Café, family rooms, pet-friendly rooms and a floor of upgraded SuperRooms with a coffee machine and a better shower. Holborn and Covent Garden stations are six minutes away, the Piazza eight, and the Gillian Lynne and Shaftesbury theatres two. Kids eat breakfast for £1 with a paying adult, and there's a step-free ramp behind the building.

It's only a bargain on quiet nights. For 10 November the Standard Double had already gone and the one double left was a SuperRoom at £279 non-refundable (£313 fully flexible), more than the Z Hotel or either Premier Inn nearby. Breakfast is extra and there's no car park. Its Google score, 3.8 from more than 6,000 reviews, is the lowest of any hotel here, with some reviewers describing tired bathrooms, so book it when the price is clearly the cheapest in the area and not otherwise.

The Savoy

The Strand and the Aldwych: the river side of Covent Garden. South of the Piazza, the Strand runs from Trafalgar Square to the curve of the Aldwych, with the grand hotels on the river side and the Adelphi, Vaudeville and Savoy theatres along it. It's a main road with buses day and night, so on this street the rear room matters most. The Savoy is the one for a once-in-a-lifetime night: the 1889 hotel entered through Savoy Court, with the American Bar, an indoor pool and the Savoy Theatre right next door. Embankment station is five minutes away, Charing Cross six, the Piazza seven and Trafalgar Square ten, and the Vaudeville, the Adelphi and the Lyceum are all within five.

The bill matches the name. For 10 November the entry Superior Queen, 27 sq m and facing the courtyard or the city, was £941 non-refundable on Booking.com or £990 flexible, with breakfast at £45 a head, and a Thames view starts at the Junior Suite River View at about £1,568. So decide what you're paying for: the bar, the pool and the address come with every room, the river doesn't. It holds a 4.7 on Google from more than 11,000 reviews.

One Aldwych

One Aldwych is my pick for a special trip on the Covent Garden side. It's a five-star in the 1905 Morning Post building where the Strand meets the Aldwych, with an 18-metre chlorine-free indoor pool, a spa, the Indigo restaurant and the Lobby Bar, and it runs theatre breaks including one with the Donmar Warehouse. The Piazza is five minutes on foot and Trafalgar Square eleven. Theatres crowd round the door: the Lyceum, the Novello and the Duchess a minute away, the Aldwych and Theatre Royal Drury Lane two, the Royal Opera House four.

Expect to pay for it. For 10 November the entry Superior, about 23 sq m, was £850 non-refundable or £1,000 flexible, room only, every rate carries a discretionary 5% service charge, and breakfast adds about £60 for two. Classic and Superior rooms look onto the surrounding streets, so for a view book a Bridge View Studio Suite (45 sq m and round, over Waterloo Bridge). Families can connect up to four rooms, and small and medium dogs are welcome.

ME London

ME London is Meliá's design hotel on the Strand: a five-star with floor-to-ceiling windows, STK steakhouse, Luciano by Gino D'Acampo, and the Radio Rooftop bar on the tenth floor with a view across the city. The Piazza is five minutes away and Trafalgar Square twelve; the Novello Theatre is next door, and the Duchess, the Aldwych and the Lyceum are within two minutes. Covent Garden and Temple stations are both seven minutes. It's the pick for a couple who want a scene and a view without paying Savoy money.

Read the price carefully. For 10 November the public rate for an Always ME (23 sq m) was £418 room only; the hotel's site shows the free members' price (£356) first, so join or don't mistake one for the other. Bed and breakfast adds about £60 for two, and the cancellation terms only appear at checkout. The entry room has no view, so pay for an Always ME City View (29 sq m) or a Terrace room (21 sq m, with a balcony over the city or the river). The Waldorf Hilton, London

The Waldorf Hilton is the Edwardian grand hotel on the Aldwych crescent, sold on its period-style rooms, Good Godfrey's bar (named after the hotel's original house band), the Wild Monkey cocktail bar and a Theatreland afternoon tea. It's the big family-friendly hotel on this side, with connecting rooms you can confirm in advance and family rooms for three or four. The Novello Theatre is next door and the Aldwych a minute away; the Piazza is five minutes and Trafalgar Square twelve.

The entry Queen Guest Room is 19 sq m. For 10 November it was £560 on the advance-purchase rate (no cancellations), £658 flexible, with breakfast about £36 for two; free Hilton Honors membership brought the advance rate to £532. Nearly every standard category faces the courtyard, the quiet side, so confirm it when you book. There's no parking of any kind and no pets, and some reviewers find the rooms dated for the price.

Strand Palace

Strand Palace is the one I'd book for value on the Strand. It's a huge 1909 hotel, renovated in 2019, three minutes from the Piazza and ten from Trafalgar Square, with Covent Garden station five minutes away and Charing Cross six. The Lyceum is two minutes off, and the Adelphi, the Savoy, the Vaudeville and the Royal Opera House three. Every room has air-conditioning, the gym is free, and Joe Allen and the Gin Palace bar are in the building.

For 10 November the cheapest Standard rate was £252 room only, with bed and breakfast from £324 and a Premium room from about £341. Book early: it's the West End's big value hotel and it fills. The smallest double is the 13 sq m Classic, so pack light or pay for an 18 sq m Superior. It's big and busy, and a reviewer mentions waiting for the lift (elevator) at peak times. There are no family rooms and no car park.

The Resident Covent Garden

The Resident Covent Garden is the smart choice for a longer stay: 57 rooms in an Edwardian building on Bedford Street, between the Strand and the Piazza, each with a mini-kitchen (fridge, microwave, sink, Nespresso machine), air-conditioning, a team on duty round the clock and a free drink for guests every evening. The Piazza is five minutes away, Trafalgar Square six and Charing Cross station three, and the Adelphi and Vaudeville theatres are a minute or two off. It holds a 4.8 on Google from nearly 700 reviews.

There's no restaurant, bar or breakfast, by design: you eat out or use the kitchen, and the hotel has discounts at cafés nearby. For 10 November The King (21 sq m, a super-king or twins) was from £444 on the hotel's own site. The Superior King (25 sq m, from £481) is the family room: it takes a free rollaway or a cot, which the smaller rooms can't. No pets, and there's no parking (the hotel points drivers to Q-Park Chinatown).

The Z Hotel Covent Garden

The Z Hotel Covent Garden is the budget pick in the middle of it all: 113 small, air-conditioned rooms in a courtyard building behind St Paul's Church on Bedford Street, with a lift, a café and reception open 24 hours, and free cheese and wine for members. Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Charing Cross stations are all four minutes away, the Piazza four and Trafalgar Square eight, and the Adelphi, the Coliseum, the Duke of York's, the Noël Coward and the Vaudeville are three.

The rooms are tiny, so it only works if you'll be out all day. For 10 November the 9 sq m Z Double was £219 prepaid or £270 flexible; the Z Queen, 11 sq m, is £5 more and the one I'd take. The cheapest room of all, the Z Inside Queen at £209, has no window. Breakfast adds about £28 for two, free membership takes 10% off, and pets aren't allowed. There are accessible Z Queen rooms at 14 sq m.

Wilde Covent Garden

Wilde Covent Garden is Staycity's aparthotel on Adam Street, a quiet side street in the Adelphi just off the Strand: studios with full kitchens, a lift to every floor, 24-hour reception and discounts for long stays. It's the one I'd book for a week, especially with a family. Charing Cross station is three minutes away, the Piazza six and Trafalgar Square seven, with the Adelphi, the Savoy and the Vaudeville three minutes off. It holds a 4.9 on Google from more than 4,700 reviews.

For 10 November it started at £308 for a 15 sq m Wilde Bedroom, which has no kitchen. For about £16 more the 18 sq m Studio has one, and the kitchen is the point of staying here. Stays of 7 to 21 nights get 20% off and longer stays 30%. There's no food or bar on site, online check-in is compulsory, and the Hideaway studios have no windows. Ask for a Superior Studio (22 sq m, a corner room over the Strand) for a view and space for three.

St Martins Lane

St Martin's Lane and Leicester Square: theatreland proper. West of the Piazza, St Martin's Lane runs down towards Trafalgar Square past the Coliseum, the Duke of York's and the Noël Coward, and Leicester Square sits at the western edge, where Charing Cross Road marks the start of Soho. St Martins Lane is Philippe Starck's hotel at number 45, with floor-to-ceiling windows and colour-changing light in every room, the Den bar, Restaurant 45 and the EllaMia café. For a theatre trip it's the address I'd choose: the Duke of York's is at the door, the Coliseum and the Noël Coward a minute away, Wyndham's two. Leicester Square and Charing Cross stations are three minutes, Trafalgar Square five and the Piazza six.

For 10 November the Standard Queen (22 sq m) was from £505, and the hotel's offers page lists up to 25% off for booking at least seven days ahead. Standard rooms look onto Hop Gardens or Mays Court, the alleys beside the hotel, which is quieter than the Lane itself. Reviewers find the Standard's queen closer to a double, so a couple wanting space should book the Deluxe King (33 sq m, £615) or a Deluxe Garden Room with its own patio (28 sq m, £585). Valet parking is £44 a night, and small dogs (up to 20 lb, about 9 kg) are welcome.

hub by Premier Inn London Covent Garden

hub by Premier Inn London Covent Garden is the smart budget bed on St Martin's Lane, next to the Duke of York's Theatre and directly opposite the Coliseum. It's Premier Inn's compact format: 11 sq m rooms with a proper double bed, touchscreen controls for the lights and temperature, air-conditioning and storage under the bed. Charing Cross station is two minutes away, Leicester Square three, Trafalgar Square four and the Piazza seven.

There's one room type and one size, with no twins or family rooms. For 10 November it was £255 non-refundable, £270 semi-flexible or £300 fully flexible; breakfast is continental only and extra, and there's no car park. The windows don't open and the room is tight for two, so it suits solo travellers and couples who pack light and spend their evenings across the road.

The Londoner

The Londoner is the big luxury hotel on Leicester Square itself: 350 rooms and suites from Edwardian Hotels, six places to eat and drink including the rooftop 8 at The Londoner and The Stage champagne bar, a gym open 24 hours to guests and an underground spa with a 12.5-metre pool. Leicester Square station is three minutes away, Trafalgar Square five and the Piazza ten, and fifteen theatres are within five minutes' walk, from the Garrick and the Harold Pinter to the Prince of Wales and the Sondheim.

It isn't cheap. For 10 November the cheapest room on sale was a Deluxe King (29 sq m) at £767.25 prepaid and non-refundable, or £825 flexible, room only. The free Friends of The Londoner membership brought the prepaid rate down to £621.47, so join before you book. Leicester Square stays busy long after the theatres empty, so ask for a high floor away from the square.

Premier Inn London Leicester Square

Premier Inn London Leicester Square is the full-size Premier Inn in Queens House on Leicester Place, just off the north side of the square: air-conditioning throughout, a cooked breakfast buffet where up to two children eat free with a paying adult, and double, twin, family and accessible rooms. It's my family budget pick for the West End. Leicester Square station is two minutes away, Trafalgar Square seven and the Piazza nine; the Leicester Square Theatre is next door and Wyndham's two minutes off.

For 10 November a Standard double was £251 non-refundable, £259 semi-flexible or £278 flexible. A city view was £23 more and a Premier Plus room (coffee machine and fridge) £285. Breakfast is extra and room sizes aren't published. There's no car park; Q-Park Chinatown charges £48 for 24 hours and has a 1.98-metre height limit.

Assembly Leicester Square

Assembly Leicester Square had the lowest rate of any hotel here for 10 November: 139 small, air-conditioned, sound-insulated rooms on Charing Cross Road, a minute from Leicester Square station and five from Trafalgar Square, with the Garrick and Wyndham's theatres a minute away and the Piazza seven. It's a place to sleep between shows, not a place to spend an afternoon.

The cheapest room is a 10 sq m Compact with no window, £194.94 for 10 November on the semi-flexible rate (£228 fully flexible). Pay about £9 more for a 13 sq m Cozy room with a window, or book the 16 sq m Modern if there are three of you. Charing Cross Road is a main road, luggage storage costs £15, and check-out until noon is a £20 extra. Reviewers are consistent: small rooms, a very good location.

The Trafalgar St. James London, Curio Collection by Hilton

Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross: the calmer southern edge. The hotels on the square and down Northumberland Avenue are the more grown-up end of the West End, with Charing Cross station on the doorstep, the river a few minutes south and Whitehall running down to Westminster. The Trafalgar St. James is the one I'd pick: a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel in a converted 19th-century office building on the corner of the square, with rooms from 28 to 68 sq m and the Rockwell Bistro & Wine Bar downstairs. Charing Cross station is a minute away and Trafalgar Square two; the Piazza is thirteen.

The rooms start at 28 sq m, bigger than any entry room here except Corinthia's. For 10 November the cheapest room on sale was a 30 sq m Trafalgar King from £420, with breakfast extra. The catch is the walk: it's a Trafalgar Square base, thirteen minutes from the Piazza. Families can confirm connecting rooms, or book the Nelson room with two queen beds (£656). The Landseer and Barry suites look straight onto Nelson's Column; for quiet, ask for one of the Spring Garden Suites, which the hotel describes as tucked into a quiet corner. There's no on-site parking (guests get 20% off at Q-Park Leicester Square) and no pets.

The Clermont, Charing Cross

The Clermont, Charing Cross is the 1860s railway hotel built over Charing Cross station and entered from the Strand: Victorian bones, the Platform 7 restaurant and bar, afternoon tea in the Conservatory, a 24-hour gym and a free minibar in every room. For an early train from Charing Cross nothing is closer, since the station is underneath you. Embankment is three minutes away, Trafalgar Square four and the Piazza nine. It used to be the Amba Hotel Charing Cross, so older reviews use that name.

For 10 November the Classic Double (19 to 20 sq m, a queen bed) was £456 prepaid or £480 flexible, and the free membership takes 10% off both. Breakfast is extra. Outside is the Strand at its busiest, with crowds and traffic in front of the station, but reviewers find it calm inside. Families and groups should ask for the Superior King (28 sq m, with a sofa bed) or the Deluxe Family (32 sq m, sleeps four).

Club Quarters Hotel, Trafalgar Square

Club Quarters Hotel, Trafalgar Square is the business-style hotel in a Victorian block on Northumberland Avenue, three minutes from both the square and Charing Cross station: a wood-panelled Club Living Room for guests, the 50 Kalò pizzeria and Boyds Grill & Wine Bar downstairs, and air-conditioning in every room. The Playhouse Theatre is three minutes away; the Piazza is thirteen.

For 10 November the Club Room (18 sq m, queen bed) was £245 on the non-refundable web rate or £288 flexible, and the 21 sq m Standard Room was only £12 more, so take that. The booking engine labels its prices as excluding taxes, so check whether VAT is added before you pay. The Superior with Sofa Bed (27 sq m, with a kitchenette, sleeps three) is the family option. Northumberland Avenue is a main road down to the river.

Corinthia London

Corinthia London is the luxury answer to the Savoy on the Trafalgar Square side: a five-star on Whitehall Place, between the square and the river, with the Biome spa and its indoor pool, Tom Kerridge's restaurant Kerridge's and his Georgie's Bar, the Velvet cocktail bar and Mezzogiorno. Embankment station is three minutes away, Trafalgar Square seven and the Piazza fourteen, so it's the calm end of the West End rather than the middle of it. Family Rooms have two double beds.

It's the most expensive hotel here. For 10 November the entry Superior King (32 sq m) was £1,020 on the daily rate, room only but with the spa and gym included, and breakfast adds £84 for two. Superior Kings face either the inner courtyard or the city, so ask for the courtyard for quiet, or pay for a Junior Suite with a Juliette balcony over it.

── the quick answer

Which Covent Garden hotel, by traveller

First visit, walking everywhere: Strand Palace for value, The Resident for a quiet room on Bedford Street, NoMad London or the Covent Garden Hotel if the budget stretches.

Theatre trip: St Martins Lane (next door to the Coliseum) or hub by Premier Inn (opposite it), ME London or the Waldorf Hilton beside the Novello, NoMad London for the Royal Opera House.

Special occasion: One Aldwych for the pool and the theatre packages, the Savoy for the name and the American Bar, Corinthia London for the spa, Henrietta Experimental for something small and pretty.

Families: Wilde Covent Garden or The Resident for a kitchen, Premier Inn London Leicester Square for family rooms on a budget, the Waldorf Hilton or the Trafalgar St. James for connecting rooms.

Budget: the Z Hotel Covent Garden, Assembly Leicester Square (take a room with a window), hub by Premier Inn, or the Fielding if you can manage the stairs.

Light sleepers: a courtyard room at the Waldorf Hilton or Corinthia, an alley-side room at St Martins Lane, or The Resident or Wilde on their side streets.

Longer stays: Wilde Covent Garden (20% off 7 to 21 nights, 30% beyond) or The Resident's mini-kitchens.

Arriving by train at Charing Cross or leaving early for Heathrow: the Clermont is built over Charing Cross station; for Heathrow, any hotel near Covent Garden, Leicester Square or Holborn stations has the Piccadilly line direct.

── the honest trade-offs

What each patch gives up

Covent Garden and Seven Dials: the most charm and the best restaurants on the doorstep; small rooms, high prices, and Covent Garden station runs on lifts only, so at busy times Leicester Square is often the quicker station.

The Strand and the Aldwych: the grand hotels, the river, and the Adelphi, Vaudeville and Savoy theatres on the street itself; the Strand is a main road with buses all night, so ask for the back.

St Martin's Lane and Leicester Square: the closest beds to the most theatres and the widest price range, from an 11 sq m hub room to The Londoner; also the loudest and most crowded streets in the area late at night.

Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross: calmer streets, the roomiest entry rooms in the area at the Trafalgar St. James and Corinthia, and the station on the doorstep; nine to fourteen minutes from the Piazza, and Northumberland Avenue is a busy road.

── also in the area

The ones you'll see on the booking sites

These are open and fine, just not ones I'd pick over the hotels above. Around Trafalgar Square: The Grand at Trafalgar Square, in the same building as Club Quarters, Citadines Trafalgar Square (apartments on Northumberland Avenue), Page8 on St Martin's Place, the Thistle London Trafalgar Square on Whitcomb Street, and The Royal Horseguards on Whitehall Court, which is closer to Westminster than to the Piazza.

On Leicester Square, the Radisson Blu Hotel, London Leicester Square and Hotel Indigo London 1 Leicester Square. On the Strand, The Z Hotel Strand, a sister of the Covent Garden Z; behind the National Gallery, The Z Hotel Piccadilly on Orange Street. In Seven Dials, the small, simple Seven Dials Hotel on Monmouth Street, and at the Holborn end, Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden on High Holborn, 13 minutes from the Piazza.

West of Charing Cross Road is Soho, east of Kingsway is Holborn and Bloomsbury, and south of Trafalgar Square, Whitehall runs down to Westminster and Big Ben. The where to stay in London guide covers each of them.

Prices and timing

Every rate here is for Tuesday 10 November 2026, two adults, one night, from the hotel's own booking engine or Booking.com where the card says so, checked on 18 September 2026 (Strand Palace, The Resident and the Z Hotel on 23 September). Rates move, so treat them as a comparison. Rates include VAT and London has no tourist tax yet; the Covent Garden Hotel and One Aldwych add a discretionary 5% service charge, and Club Quarters' engine shows prices before tax, so check the total at checkout.

The cheapest way into Covent Garden is a midweek night in January or February; for a summer or Christmas trip, book three to six months ahead.

── frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is Covent Garden a good area to stay in London?
Yes, especially for a first visit or a theatre trip. Every hotel in this guide is within a 14-minute walk of the Covent Garden Piazza and 16 minutes of Trafalgar Square, and the two are about ten minutes apart, so the West End, the National Gallery and the river are all on foot, and it's Zone 1 with the Piccadilly line direct to Heathrow. The trade-offs are small rooms for the money, prices that are high for the room size, and late crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. Light sleepers should ask for a courtyard room or look at Bloomsbury or Westminster instead.
Which Covent Garden hotels are closest to the West End theatres?
NoMad London is across Bow Street from the Royal Opera House. The Savoy is next door to the Savoy Theatre, ME London and the Waldorf Hilton are beside the Novello, and St Martins Lane is next door to the Coliseum and hub by Premier Inn sits opposite it, both beside the Duke of York's. The Londoner and Premier Inn London Leicester Square each have fifteen theatres within a five-minute walk.
Which hotels are closest to Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square?
On Trafalgar Square, the Trafalgar St. James is two minutes from the square and a minute from Charing Cross station, and Club Quarters on Northumberland Avenue is three. The Clermont, built over Charing Cross station, and hub by Premier Inn are four minutes away, and Corinthia London is seven. On Leicester Square, The Londoner is on the square itself, Premier Inn London Leicester Square is on Leicester Place just off it, and Assembly Leicester Square is a minute from the station on Charing Cross Road.
Is Covent Garden noisy at night?
Parts of it are. The Strand, Charing Cross Road and Northumberland Avenue are main roads, and Leicester Square and St Martin's Lane stay busy until the theatres and bars empty. The quietest beds are courtyard rooms at the Waldorf Hilton and Corinthia, the side-street hotels on Bedford Street and Adam Street (The Resident, the Z Hotel, Wilde), and rooms at St Martins Lane that face the alleys rather than the Lane. The Middle Eight at the Holborn end is away from the theatre crowds. AMANO has a DJ bar in the basement but soundproof windows in every room.
What is the best Covent Garden hotel for families, and for couples?
For families I'd book Wilde Covent Garden or The Resident for a kitchen and space for a cot, Premier Inn London Leicester Square for family rooms on a budget (up to two children eat breakfast free), or the Waldorf Hilton and the Trafalgar St. James for connecting rooms in a full-service hotel. For couples, the Covent Garden Hotel and One Aldwych are the special-occasion picks, Henrietta Experimental is the small, stylish one off the Piazza, and St Martins Lane suits a theatre night.
