Where to stay in Canary Wharf and the Docklands 29 hotels from the towers to ExCeL and City Airport, with what they cost midweek and at the weekend

Stay in Canary Wharf for a weekend, a conference, a show at ExCeL London or a flight from London City Airport. The Docklands are London's second business district, east of the City, and their hotels are priced for the bankers who fill them Monday to Thursday, so most of the good ones on the estate drop by a quarter to a half on a Saturday. You also get things the centre rarely offers at the price: pools, big rooms, views over the river, and the Elizabeth line, which runs from Canary Wharf to Tottenham Court Road in 13 minutes and on to Paddington and Heathrow. Skip it if you want to walk out of the door into old London: the estate is glass towers, malls and water, and it's quiet on a Sunday night. To weigh it against the West End, the South Bank and the rest of town, start with where to stay in London.

The hotels are grouped from west to east: the Canary Wharf estate itself (including Wood Wharf and West India Quay), the Isle of Dogs south of it, the Westferry and Blackwall edges, then the Royal Docks: the ExCeL west entrance at Custom House, ExCeL East and Prince Regent, London City Airport, and Canning Town. Each hotel gets its walking time to the Canary Wharf Elizabeth line station or, in the Royal Docks, to Custom House, Prince Regent or the airport terminal (Google's door-to-door walking estimate), its nearest station, three dated prices and the honest catch. The Greenwich Peninsula and The O2, across the river from Blackwall, are in the hotels near The O2 guide; for the Square Mile's own weekend bargains see hotels in the City of London, and for Borough and the Shard, hotels near London Bridge.

How to read the prices: each hotel shows its cheapest double for two on Tuesday 10, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026, including VAT and room only unless it says otherwise, from the hotel's own site or Booking.com where marked, as of 25 September 2026. They show the swing between the nights rather than a quote. London adds no tourist tax. Two things move Docklands prices more than the day of the week. The first is ExCeL: that Tuesday was the eve of The Business Show (11 to 12 November) with #RISK Europe already on, which is why some ExCeL hotels were sold out or dear; check the calendar on excel.london before you book. The second is London's usual peaks: the Christmas-lights weeks from mid-November, the summer holidays, and big concert nights at The O2.

London Marriott Hotel Canary Wharf

The Canary Wharf estate. This is the glass-tower core between West India Quay and Westferry Circus, plus Wood Wharf, the newer quarter of flats, parks and restaurants on the east side of the estate. Everything here is within ten minutes' walk of the Elizabeth line, the Jubilee line and the DLR, and it's where I'd stay for a first weekend in the Docklands. London Marriott Hotel Canary Wharf sits on Hertsmere Road at West India Quay, the old warehouse row with the Museum of London Docklands and a line of dockside restaurants. It's three minutes' walk from the Canary Wharf Elizabeth line station and two from West India Quay DLR, with a gym and a sauna, and it holds 4.3 on Google across more than 2,100 reviews.

It's a business hotel priced for Tuesday: a Deluxe King was about £343 on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November, £231 for the Saturday and £254 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £25 each. There's no pool, and pets aren't allowed. Ask for a room facing the towers rather than the back of the building; the skyline at night is the reason to stay on the estate.

Tip

Ask for a room facing the Canary Wharf towers. West India Quay DLR is a two-minute walk and the Canary Wharf Elizabeth line station three.

Canary Riverside Plaza London, Vignette Collection

Canary Riverside Plaza London is the riverside hotel at Westferry Circus, on the Thames at the western tip of the estate, and it has joined IHG's Vignette Collection. Its 141 rooms are big for London (a standard King is 34 sq m, with a separate bath and walk-in shower), there's an indoor pool in the health club and spa next door, and Quadrato, the Italian restaurant, has a terrace on the river. Westferry DLR is five minutes' walk and the Elizabeth line ten. It holds 4.2 on Google across nearly 600 reviews.

On IHG's own site a King Standard City View was £352 for the Tuesday and £263 on both the Saturday and the Sunday, room only and non-refundable; IHG members paid about 10% less. Pay the extra £10 for the River View: it's the view reviewers remember. The catches are in recent reviews: a faulty fire alarm that went off repeatedly one night in July 2026, and suites with worn carpets and tired fittings. The pool is in a separate club that's open to members of the public, so it can be busy. Parking is valet only, at £35 a night.

Tip

Pay the extra £10 for a River View room. Westferry DLR is a five-minute walk and the Elizabeth line ten.

TRIBE London Canary Wharf

TRIBE London Canary Wharf is Accor's design-led brand on Water Street in Wood Wharf: 312 rooms over six floors, a Californian restaurant called Feels Like June, a bar with a terrace, a 24-hour grab-and-go counter and a co-working lounge. The Elizabeth line station is nine minutes' walk and the Jubilee line eight. It holds 4.5 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews, most of them praising the staff.

It's the clearest weekend drop on the estate: a TRIBE Essential Atrium room was £301 on Accor's own site for the Tuesday, £191 for the Saturday and £139 for the Sunday, room only. The trade-off is space. Every standard room is 14 sq m, and the atrium ones face the inner courtyard; one guest reviewing on Accor's site found theirs dark, "like a cabin on a boat". The City View room is the same size on a high floor and cost only £18 to £19 more, so book that. There's no gym or pool in the building; guests get a discounted day pass to the Third Space club nearby.

Tip

Book the City View room (same 14 sq m, high floor) for £18 to £19 more rather than an atrium room facing the courtyard. The Elizabeth line is a nine-minute walk.

Tribe is a great hotel in a great location. from a visitor review

Locke London Canary Wharf

Locke London Canary Wharf is an aparthotel of 279 studios and suites on Cartier Circle, at the Wood Wharf end of the estate, six minutes' walk from the Elizabeth line. Every studio has a full kitchen with a dishwasher and a washer-dryer, there's a gym and the LUQA café and bar downstairs, and dogs are welcome for a one-off £40 cleaning fee. It holds 4.3 on Google from a little over 100 reviews, since it's new. For a family or anyone staying a week, it's my pick on the estate.

A Superior Studio (23 sq m) was £269 on Locke's own site for the Tuesday and £254 for the Sunday; on the Saturday Locke's own site offered only the 25 sq m Deluxe Studio, at £205, room only (Booking.com still had a Superior at about £194). Rooms are cleaned weekly rather than daily, and breakfast is £25 a head, which one guest thought wasn't worth it. Pay the extra £13 for a Deluxe with a marina view; reviewers single out the rooms that look over the water towards The O2.

Tip

Pay the extra £13 for a Deluxe Studio with a marina view. Studios are cleaned weekly, not daily. Dogs are £40 per stay.

Vertus Edit Canary Wharf

Vertus Edit Canary Wharf is the estate's own aparthotel brand, run by the Canary Wharf Group across two buildings on West Lane in Wood Wharf. Every studio sleeps two and has a kitchenette, and there's a gym, a rooftop terrace, a laundry and a lounge with free coffee. The Elizabeth line station is ten minutes' walk on Google's estimate. It holds 4.6 on Google across more than 400 reviews.

It's the cheapest kitchen on the estate: a 17 sq m Little Studio was about £186 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £169 for the Saturday and £152 for the Sunday. The Vertus site advertises 25% off for booking direct, so check there first. There's no restaurant (breakfast is a £10 add-on), and the streets around it are offices and new flats. Step up to the 22 sq m Cosy Studio, which cost only £17 more on the Tuesday.

Point A Hotel London Canary Wharf

Point A Hotel London Canary Wharf is the budget room on the estate: a compact, app-driven hotel on Hertsmere Road, seven minutes' walk from the Elizabeth line and five from Westferry or West India Quay DLR. A Classic Double with a window is 11 sq m, there's a 24-hour snack bar in the lobby, and it holds 4.2 on Google across nearly 1,600 reviews.

It's one of the hotels here that runs the other way. On Point A's own site that Classic Double was £148.50 for the Tuesday and £166.50 for the Saturday, then £94.50 for the Sunday, so book it on a Sunday night rather than a Saturday. Join its free membership before booking: it takes 10% off and adds breakfast. The rooms have no wardrobe, just hooks, and are cleaned every four days, and some are windowless, so pay the few pounds more for a window.

Tip

Join the free A List before booking (10% off plus breakfast), and pay the few pounds more for a room with a window. Sunday is the cheap night.

House of Gods London

House of Gods London is the London outpost of the Edinburgh boutique hotel known for its maximalist rooms, on Bank Street in the middle of the estate, six minutes' walk from the Elizabeth line. The direct rates include breakfast, prosecco on arrival and milk and cookies at bedtime, and the bigger rooms and suites have balconies or terraces over the water.

Treat it as brand new. Its opening slipped several times, so many of its 35 Google reviews (3.3 overall) come from guests whose bookings were cancelled, not people who stayed. The rooftop restaurant and bar are still marked "coming soon". The cheapest room is a windowless 18 sq m Cabin: £206.10 for the Tuesday, £224.10 for the Saturday and £197.10 for the Sunday on its own site, breakfast included. The Classic, with a king bed, was about £36 more; ask for one with a window, because some don't have one.

Tip

Newly opened after delays; the rooftop restaurant and bar are still 'coming soon'. The Classic (king bed) costs about £36 more than a Cabin; ask for one with a window.

Novotel London Canary Wharf

The Isle of Dogs: South Quay and Millwall. South of the estate, across South Dock, Marsh Wall is a row of towers, most of them flats, with the Isle of Dogs beyond. You're ten minutes' walk from the Elizabeth line instead of three, and South Quay DLR is the nearest station, but you get bigger hotels, pools and views back over the towers. Novotel London Canary Wharf is the one I'd book: 313 rooms stacked 39 floors up on Marsh Wall, a pool and sauna downstairs, and Bōkan's restaurant, bar and roof terrace on the top three floors. It's six minutes to South Quay DLR, seven to the Jubilee line and 11 to the Elizabeth line, and it holds 4.5 on Google across more than 5,000 reviews.

On Accor's own site a 21 sq m Superior Double was £326 for the Tuesday, £164 for the Saturday and £151 for the Sunday, room only, with about 10% off for Accor members; breakfast is £25 each. That's half price at the weekend. The Executive Room is the same size but on a guaranteed high floor, for £35 to £43 more, and worth it for the view. Accor's own guest scores rate cleanliness and value low, and a guest in 2026 found the pool closed for maintenance without warning, so ask before you book if the pool matters.

Hilton London Canary Wharf

Hilton London Canary Wharf is on South Quay Square on Marsh Wall, four minutes' walk from South Quay DLR, five from the Jubilee line and nine from the Elizabeth line. It has a gym, a sauna and a steam room, family rooms, and an executive floor; guests describe the rooms as spacious and the breakfast as good value. It holds 4.4 on Google across more than 3,400 reviews.

A Double Room was about £273 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £162 for the Saturday and £196 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £24.95. The Saturday is the night to book. There's no pool listed, and reviewers note small things missing: no fridge in the standard rooms, no plug by the mirror.

Dorsett Canary Wharf, London

Dorsett Canary Wharf, London opened in October 2025 in a new tower at 48 Marsh Wall, next to the Novotel: 231 rooms, a Cantonese restaurant called Canary House and Skybar Qibo on the 25th floor. It's six minutes' walk from South Quay DLR and 11 from the Elizabeth line, and it holds 4.1 on Google from a little under 150 reviews.

A Dorsett Double was about £256 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £174 for the Saturday and £161 for the Sunday; breakfast is £21. The first year has been bumpy: early guests hit booking-system problems, and recent ones describe service as basic for the price and dinner that stops early. The high-floor Deluxe King and the corner rooms are the ones with the views.

Cove, Landmark Pinnacle

Cove, Landmark Pinnacle is a set of serviced apartments run by Locke inside the Landmark Pinnacle residential tower on Westferry Road, at the northern tip of Millwall. Studios have a kitchenette, the bigger apartments have full kitchens, there's a lounge with an indoor playground and a garden on the 27th floor, and dogs are welcome for a £40 fee. Heron Quays DLR is six minutes' walk and the Elizabeth line 11. It holds 4.4 on Google across more than 350 reviews.

A studio was £239 on Cove's own site for the Tuesday, £176 for the Saturday and £167 for the Sunday; breakfast is £15. Kitchens come thinly stocked, and two recent reviewers noticed a sewage smell, so ask to move if your apartment has it. Long-stay guests (seven nights or more) also get the 56th-floor gym and its view.

Premier Inn London Canary Wharf (Westferry)

Westferry, Poplar and Blackwall. These are the edges of the Docklands: Westferry to the west of the estate, Blackwall to the east by the river. They're quieter and a little cheaper, and the DLR brings you into Canary Wharf in a stop or two. Premier Inn London Canary Wharf (Westferry) is a tall Premier Inn on Limehouse Causeway, one minute from Westferry DLR and ten minutes' walk from the Elizabeth line, with a restaurant and big rooms for London. It holds 4.4 on Google across nearly 1,400 reviews, and guests on the upper floors mention the view.

Budget hotels in the Docklands don't follow the weekday-to-weekend rule. On Premier Inn's own site a Standard double was £142 for the Tuesday and £157 for the Saturday, then just £51 for the Sunday, non-refundable. For a Saturday-to-Sunday weekend, book the Sunday night here and the Saturday somewhere that falls at the weekend. The Premier Plus room (fridge, coffee machine) was £8 to £24 more.

Fraser Place Canary Wharf

Fraser Place Canary Wharf is 108 serviced apartments on Boardwalk Place by Blackwall Basin, just east of the estate: studios up to two-bedroom flats, each with a kitchen, most with a washing machine, some with a balcony over the marina. The Elizabeth line is ten minutes' walk and Blackwall DLR eight, and there's a gym and a café for breakfast. It holds 4.2 on Google across more than 800 reviews.

A 23 sq m Deluxe Studio was about £226 on Booking.com for the Tuesday and £175 for both the Saturday and the Sunday. There's no air conditioning, which guests noticed in the May heat; fans are provided. Ask for a balcony apartment facing the water.

It holds 4.3 on Google across nearly 2,400 reviews, most of them about friendly staff.

It's cheapest midweek: £127 on Accor's own site for the Tuesday, £170 for the Saturday and £160 for the Sunday, for a 15 sq m double, room only. The rooms are small and the breakfast doesn't change from day to day. For three people, the double with a sofa bed is the only upgrade worth paying for.

Radisson Blu Hotel, London Canary Wharf East

Radisson Blu Hotel, London Canary Wharf East is a riverside hotel at New Providence Wharf in Blackwall, looking straight across the Thames at The O2. It has a gym, a spa with a sauna and steam room, and family rooms; Blackwall DLR is nine minutes' walk and the Canary Wharf Elizabeth line 16. It holds 4.4 on Google across more than 2,500 reviews.

A Superior King or Twin was about £269 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £220 for the Saturday and £203 for the Sunday, room only. It has the longest walk to the Elizabeth line of the Canary Wharf-side hotels, and recent reviews mention patchy cleaning. Book the Premium river-view room; reviewers who got one call the view of The O2 at night the highlight. For a show at The O2 itself, the Greenwich Peninsula hotels are in the hotels near The O2 guide.

Sunborn London

ExCeL and Custom House. The Royal Docks are about two miles east of Canary Wharf, around Royal Victoria Dock, and this is where you stay for a show at ExCeL London. The western end of the exhibition centre sits beside Custom House station, on the Elizabeth line and the DLR, 11 minutes from Liverpool Street and 17 from Tottenham Court Road. Five hotels line the dock on Western Gateway, all within ten minutes' walk of that entrance. Sunborn London is the one people remember: a super-yacht permanently moored in the dock, run as a hotel, with the Lands End restaurant, the Sundown bar on deck and afternoon tea. It's six minutes' walk from Custom House, and it holds 4.4 on Google across nearly 4,000 reviews.

It's the leisure pick here, and the prices show it. On Booking.com a Classic King with a river view was about £233 for Tuesday 10 November, the cheapest room shown for the Saturday was an Executive King at about £307, and a Classic King with a dock view about £224 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £22. It's priced as a weekend treat rather than a trade-show bed. Cabins are cabins: one reviewer advises leaving the bathroom light on, as the room is very dark at night.

A real find! Not only is it unique but the location is perfect from a visitor review

Novotel London Excel

Novotel London Excel on Western Gateway calls itself the closest hotel to the exhibition centre, and it's six minutes' walk from Custom House on Google's estimate. It has a gym, 12 meeting rooms, the Upper Deck restaurant and a bar, the Superior rooms sleep four with a sofa bed, and pets are welcome. It holds 4.5 on Google across more than 5,500 reviews.

Tuesday 10 November, the night before The Business Show opened, it had only Superior rooms and a suite left, the Superior at £279 on Accor's own site; on the Saturday a Standard double was £169, and Booking.com showed the Sunday sold out by late September. That's the ExCeL pattern: book it when there's no show, or book very early when there is. If you want a pool, the Crowne Plaza a few doors along has one for its guests.

Superior rooms sleep four with a sofa bed. Pets are welcome. Custom House is a six-minute walk.

Crowne Plaza London Docklands

Crowne Plaza London Docklands is the most complete hotel at the ExCeL end: an indoor pool, a spa and a gym, 25 sq m rooms and a restaurant and bar. It's six minutes' walk from Royal Victoria DLR and nine from Custom House, and it holds 4.3 on Google across more than 3,000 reviews. For a family, or anyone who wants a pool after a long day on a stand, it's my pick here.

A Standard Room was about £274 on Booking.com for the Tuesday and £186 for the Saturday, room only; breakfast is £19.98. The Sunday cost more than either, at about £314, which happened at all three of the bigger hotels at the ExCeL end that week, so check the Sunday before assuming the weekend is cheaper. IHG members get about 10% off on IHG's own site. Pets aren't allowed.

Good Hotel London is a floating hotel on a pontoon in Royal Victoria Dock, run as a social enterprise that funds schooling for disadvantaged children. It has a rooftop bar with views over London, a restaurant and a big communal living room, and it's ten minutes' walk from Custom House and 11 from Royal Victoria DLR. It holds 4.3 on Google across nearly 2,900 reviews.

On Booking.com a Standard Twin was about £169 for the Tuesday and £125 for the Sunday, and a Double about £161 for the Saturday; breakfast is £18.50. Some rooms have no windows (one guest, happy with the stay, had a king room without one), and soundproofing between rooms is weak, so ask for a room with a window on the dock side.

Tip

Some rooms have no window; ask for one with a window on the dock side. Custom House is a ten-minute walk.

ibis London Excel Docklands

ibis London Excel Docklands is next door to the Novotel on Western Gateway, seven minutes' walk from Custom House, with a restaurant, the Foggs bar and a car park at £30 for 24 hours; pets are welcome. It holds 4.1 on Google across more than 3,300 reviews.

It's the cheapest hotel at the ExCeL entrance, and one of the few whose price barely moves: £152 on Accor's own site for the Tuesday (a twin, the double was £161), £152 for the Saturday and £119 for the Sunday, room only. The Riverside Premium rooms face the water; reviewers who got one liked the view. Rooms are standard ibis, compact and plain.

Ask for a Riverside Premium room facing the water. Custom House is a seven-minute walk. Pets are welcome.

Aloft London Excel

ExCeL East and Prince Regent. The eastern end of ExCeL has its own entrance beside Prince Regent DLR, and three hotels on Eastern Gateway and Festoon Way sit right outside it. From here the Elizabeth line is a DLR stop away at Custom House, and London City Airport is 16 to 21 minutes' walk. Aloft London Excel has direct access into ExCeL, an indoor pool, a gym, two restaurants and a lively bar, and it's nine minutes' walk from Prince Regent. It holds 4.3 on Google across more than 2,700 reviews.

An Aloft King was about £203 on Booking.com for the Tuesday and £207 for the Saturday, then about £383 for the Sunday; breakfast is £17.50. That's the ExCeL effect at its sharpest: the price follows the exhibition calendar, not the day of the week. Beyond ExCeL there's little around it in the evening, so it suits a show more than a sightseeing base.

Tip

DoubleTree by Hilton London ExCeL

DoubleTree by Hilton London ExCeL on Festoon Way is ten minutes' walk from Prince Regent and 16 from the City Airport terminal, with an Italian restaurant looking over the dock, a bar, a gym and room service until 11pm. It holds 4.2 on Google across nearly 3,200 reviews, and guests single out the river-facing rooms as spacious.

A Queen Room was about £245 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £175 for the Saturday and £283 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £19.50. Like the Aloft next door, it gets expensive around shows rather than on weekdays, and there's little around it in the evening beyond the hotels on Festoon Way. Ask for a room facing the water.

Premier Inn London Docklands (ExCeL)

Premier Inn London Docklands (ExCeL) shares Festoon Way with the DoubleTree, nine minutes' walk from Prince Regent and 18 from London City Airport, with a restaurant and a car park on site. It holds 4.2 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews; reviewers who came for ExCeL conferences praise the staff and the quiet.

On Premier Inn's own site a Standard double was £139 for the Tuesday, £176 for the Saturday and £70 for the Sunday, non-refundable. As at the other budget chains here, Saturday is the dear night and Sunday the bargain. The Premier Plus room (fridge, coffee machine) was £10 to £22 more.

Moxy London Excel

London City Airport and Dockside Road. Across Connaught Bridge, the airport sits on the next dock east, and a row of newer hotels on Dockside Road looks straight at the runway. They're 12 to 14 minutes' walk from Prince Regent and ExCeL East and about 20 from the terminal. Moxy London Excel is Marriott's playful budget brand, with a bar, family rooms and a buffet breakfast, 12 minutes from Prince Regent. It holds 4.2 on Google across more than 1,500 reviews, and guests like watching the planes.

It was sold out on Booking.com for Tuesday 10 November. For the Saturday a Queen Room was about £158, and for the Sunday a larger XL Queen with a sofa bed was about £136, room only; breakfast is £18. Ask for a room with the airport view. The streets around it are offices and roads, so plan dinner elsewhere.

Hampton by Hilton London Excel

Hampton by Hilton London Excel, next to the Moxy, is the one to book for a free breakfast near ExCeL East: every rate includes it. There's a gym, a restaurant and a bar, and it's 12 minutes' walk from Prince Regent. It holds 4.3 on Google across more than 2,300 reviews.

A Queen Room for two was about £178 on Booking.com for the Tuesday and £151 for the Saturday, breakfast included; the Sunday was sold out. Reviews mention a 40-minute limit on breakfast at busy times and a reception that can be brisk. If you're not here for ExCeL, it's out of the way: one guest stranded by a cancelled flight had to take the DLR to Beckton for a supermarket.

It's 14 minutes' walk from Prince Regent and 21 from the City Airport terminal, and it holds 4.4 on Google across more than 4,100 reviews.

A Standard Double with breakfast was about £156 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £152 for the Saturday and £118 for the Sunday, the cheapest breakfast-included room near ExCeL East that Sunday. It's the furthest of the ExCeL hotels from the Elizabeth line, so add a DLR ride to Custom House for the centre.

Courtyard by Marriott London City Airport

Courtyard by Marriott London City Airport on Connaught Road is the closest hotel to the airport: eight minutes' walk from the terminal and seven from the City Airport DLR station. It has a gym, a restaurant and a buffet breakfast that guests rate highly, and it holds 4.6 on Google across more than 1,600 reviews, the joint-highest of the Royal Docks hotels here.

A King guest room was about £150 on Booking.com for the Tuesday, £180 for the Saturday and £115 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £15. The rooms are on the small side. For an early flight it's the obvious bed, and for ExCeL East it's about a 20-minute walk.

ibis London Canning Town

Canning Town and Silvertown Way. North-west of Royal Victoria Dock, Canning Town station is the interchange where the Jubilee line meets the DLR: one stop to North Greenwich and The O2, two to Canary Wharf, two on the DLR to ExCeL. ibis London Canning Town is directly opposite the station, a one-minute walk, with 196 rooms of 16 to 17 sq m, a café-bar with pizzas and air conditioning in every room. It holds 4.6 on Google across nearly 3,000 reviews, the best-rated budget hotel here.

On Accor's own site a Double SweetRoom was £140 for the Tuesday, £166 for the Saturday and £140 for the Sunday, room only; breakfast is £13.50. It's a practical base for a concert at The O2 or a festival in east London, and guests note that the windows keep the traffic out. The neighbourhood is a big road junction and new flats, not somewhere to stroll.

── the quick answer

Which Docklands hotel, by traveller

A weekend in London on a budget, with a view: the Novotel London Canary Wharf or TRIBE on a Saturday or Sunday night; the Hilton on a Saturday.

Business in Canary Wharf: the London Marriott at West India Quay for the shortest walk to the Elizabeth line, TRIBE or the Novotel for a better room for the money.

A show at ExCeL: the Novotel Excel or the ibis Excel at the west entrance, the Aloft at the east entrance, the Crowne Plaza if you want a pool. Book as soon as the show dates are out.

An early flight from London City Airport: the Courtyard by Marriott, eight minutes' walk from the terminal.

Families: Locke or Cove for a kitchen and a washing machine, the Crowne Plaza or the Aloft for a pool, the Novotel Excel for four-person rooms.

A special night: Sunborn, the yacht on Royal Victoria Dock, on a Sunday or midweek; Canary Riverside Plaza in a river-view room.

Budget: the Premier Inns at Westferry and ExCeL on a Sunday night (£51 and £70), the ibis Canning Town any night, the Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks midweek with breakfast.

A concert at The O2: the ibis Canning Town, one stop away on the Jubilee line, or the Radisson Blu at Blackwall for the view of it; for beds on the peninsula itself, see hotels near The O2.

── the honest trade-offs

What each part of the Docklands gives up

Canary Wharf estate: the Elizabeth line on the doorstep and the most restaurants; the highest weekday prices, and a corporate feel that empties on Sunday evening.

Isle of Dogs: bigger hotels, pools and views back over the towers, and the weekend drop at its steepest; a 10-minute walk to the Elizabeth line and not much else on Marsh Wall.

Westferry and Blackwall: lower prices and quieter streets; a DLR ride or a 10 to 16 minute walk into the estate.

ExCeL and Custom House: the Elizabeth line and the exhibition centre on the doorstep; prices that follow the shows, and little to do in the evening beyond the hotels.

ExCeL East and City Airport: the airport on foot and the east entrance of ExCeL; the furthest hotels from central London, a DLR ride from the Elizabeth line.

Canning Town: the Jubilee line to The O2 and Westminster and the cheapest good rooms; a big road junction outside, not a neighbourhood to wander.

The ones you'll see on the booking sites

Open and bookable, but second choices to the hotels above: Marlin Apartments Canary Wharf on Byng Street, serviced apartments with kitchens that reviewers find roomy but dated (3.9 on Google); ARK Canary Wharf at Crossharbour, a co-living building of studios with a pool and gym that also houses long-stay residents (3.8); Travelodge London Docklands Central by East India DLR (3.7); and the Premier Inn London Docklands (Canning Town) on Silvertown Way, which was £107 for the Tuesday, £147 for the Saturday and £183 for the Sunday on Premier Inn's own site, with no parking.

The Britannia International Hotel on Marsh Wall, still listed by some booking sites, is shown as temporarily closed on Google, so check before you book it. By London City Airport, the Travelodge London City Airport (3.5) and the Travelodge London Excel (3.7) are the cheap fallbacks when the Dockside Road hotels are full. West of the estate, Limehouse has the Limehouse Library Hotel on Commercial Road (4.5 on Google), 18 minutes' walk from the Canary Wharf Elizabeth line station.

Across the river, the Greenwich Peninsula hotels, including the InterContinental joined to The O2, are in the hotels near The O2 guide. Stratford, Westfield and the Olympic Park, a few stops north of Canning Town on the Jubilee line or the DLR, have their own Stratford hotels guide, and the old dockside warehouses of Shad Thames are in the London Bridge guide.

Prices and timing

One night, two adults, the cheapest double, as of 25 September 2026 for Tuesday 10, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026. Rates move daily, so read them for the gap between the nights rather than the exact pound.

The Docklands pattern: most of the upmarket and business hotels on the estate and the Isle of Dogs were a quarter to a half cheaper on the Saturday than the Tuesday. The budget hotels (the Premier Inns, the two ibis hotels by Canary Wharf and Canning Town, Point A and the Holiday Inn Express Royal Docks) were dearer on the Saturday, and the Premier Inns and Point A then fell hard on the Sunday, to £51, £70 and £94.50. Around ExCeL the exhibitions decide: the Aloft, the DoubleTree and the Crowne Plaza were all dearest on the Sunday. Price a Sunday night first, then a Saturday.

Getting around: Canary Wharf station has the Elizabeth line (7 minutes to Liverpool Street, 13 to Tottenham Court Road, 19 to Paddington) and the Jubilee line (7 to London Bridge, 12 to Westminster, 2 to North Greenwich for The O2). Custom House, by ExCeL, is 11 minutes from Liverpool Street and 17 from Tottenham Court Road. Tap a contactless card at the gates; daily fares are capped. ── frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

Is Canary Wharf a good area to stay in London?
Yes, for a weekend, a business trip, a show at ExCeL or The O2, or a family that wants a pool and a room with a view. Canary Wharf is London's second financial district, a glass-tower estate on the old West India Docks, and its hotels are priced for weekday business travel: on Saturday 14 November 2026 most of the upmarket hotels on the estate and the Isle of Dogs were a quarter to a half cheaper than on the Tuesday before. The Elizabeth line gets you to Liverpool Street in 7 minutes and Tottenham Court Road in 13. The catch is atmosphere: it's clean, safe and modern, but it isn't the London of the postcards, and the estate is quiet on a Sunday evening. For a first trip centred on the sights, the West End or the South Bank is closer.
How far is Canary Wharf from central London?
About 15 minutes by train. From Canary Wharf station the Elizabeth line takes 7 minutes to Liverpool Street, 10 to Farringdon, 13 to Tottenham Court Road, 15 to Bond Street and 19 to Paddington, and the Jubilee line takes 7 minutes to London Bridge and 12 to Westminster (Google's in-train times; add a few minutes' wait). From Custom House, next to ExCeL, the Elizabeth line takes 11 minutes to Liverpool Street and 17 to Tottenham Court Road. Canary Wharf is in fare Zone 2, so a Tube fare into the centre costs a little more than one inside Zone 1.
Which hotels are closest to ExCeL London?
At the west entrance by Custom House station: Sunborn London and the Novotel London Excel (six minutes' walk from the station on Google's estimate), the ibis London Excel (seven), the Crowne Plaza London Docklands (nine) and Good Hotel London (ten). At the east entrance by Prince Regent DLR: Aloft London Excel, which has direct access into the centre, and the Premier Inn and DoubleTree on Festoon Way, nine to ten minutes from the station. Rates follow the exhibition calendar: the week of 10 November 2026 had #RISK Europe (10 to 11 November) and The Business Show (11 to 12 November), and some of these hotels were sold out or at their highest on the nights around them.
Which hotels are nearest London City Airport?
Courtyard by Marriott London City Airport on Connaught Road is eight minutes' walk from the terminal. The Dockside Road row (Moxy London Excel, Hampton by Hilton London Excel and Holiday Inn Express London - ExCeL) is about 19 to 21 minutes' walk away, and the Premier Inn and DoubleTree on Festoon Way 16 to 18 minutes. London City Airport has its own DLR station, one stop from Pontoon Dock and three from Canning Town.
Are Canary Wharf hotels cheaper at the weekend?
The business hotels are, the budget ones often aren't. For Tuesday 10, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026, the Novotel London Canary Wharf was £326, £164 and £151 on Accor's own site, TRIBE £301, £191 and £139, and the Hilton about £273, £162 and £196 on Booking.com. The budget hotels went the other way on the Saturday, and the Premier Inns and Point A then crashed on the Sunday: the Premier Inn at Westferry was £142, £157 and £51. Around ExCeL the price follows the exhibitions rather than the weekday, so check your exact dates.
