The best vegan restaurants in London 15 fully vegan kitchens, from a Michelin star to £13 platters

If you eat one vegan meal in London, book Plates in Shoreditch, the only vegan restaurant in the UK with a Michelin star (ten courses, £125). For a relaxed dinner in the West End, go to Mildreds in Soho, which has been cooking meat-free food since 1988 and is now fully plant-based. And for a cheap, brilliant meal, take the Overground to Dalston for a £13 Ethiopian platter at Andu. Those three cover the range.

Every restaurant here is 100% vegan by its own description: no dairy, no eggs, no "vegan options" on an otherwise meaty menu. For each one you get the dishes to order with the price from its own menu, what a meal costs per head, whether to book or walk in, what it says about gluten-free food, and the nearest station on the Tube (the subway). Prices are as of 28 September 2026. London has no tourist tax yet, and most sit-down places add a discretionary 12.5% to 15% service charge, which is the tip.

London's vegan scene has shrunk since its peak, and plenty of older guides still send you to places that have closed. Every venue below was open on 28 September 2026. For the rest of the city's food, see the best restaurants in London, and to plan a day around one of these meals, start with things to do in London.

Plates

Fine dining and tasting menus. London has three fully vegan restaurants worth booking for a big night, and Plates is the one I'd pick first. Chef Kirk Haworth switched to a plant-based diet and built a restaurant around it, and in 2025 it became the first vegan restaurant in the UK to win a Michelin star. The Michelin Guide still calls it the only one. It's at 320 Old Street, tables max out at six, and the cooking is built on technique: think caramelised lion's mane with barbecued aubergine and bug cucumber.

Order: the ten-course Discovery menu (£125), served at lunch and dinner; the eight-course Signature menu (£109) is lunch only. Spend: £180 to £230 a head with a wine pairing (£55 to £105). Book: on Tock, with a £65 per person deposit; no walk-ins. Gluten-free: not stated, and the kitchen can't cater for nut, soy or allium allergies. Tube: Old Street, 4 minutes. The catch: it's open Wednesday to Saturday only, tables go in seasonal batches, and the building isn't wheelchair accessible.

The food is delicious… layers of textures, temperatures and tastes that are truly extraordinary. from a visitor review

Gauthier Soho

Gauthier Soho is chef Alexis Gauthier's French restaurant on Romilly Street, cooking classical French food with no animal products at all. Its autumn 2026 menus say every menu is free from animal products. If you want a romantic tasting menu at a lower price than Plates, this is where I'd go.

Order: the eight-course Grand Dîner (£95), or the five-course Petit Dîner (£65) for a shorter evening; add the plant-based chèvre course (£15) if cheese matters to you. Spend: about £75 a head for the Petit Dîner with service and no drinks, about £200 for the Grand Dîner with the £80 wine pairing and 15% service. Book: online through the restaurant's booking page. Gluten-free: any dietary need with 48 hours' notice. Tube: Leicester Square, 5 minutes. The catch: it's closed Sunday and Monday, and lunch is Saturday only.

123V

123V is Alexis Gauthier's more casual Mayfair spot on Brook Street, and it does vegan sushi: nigiri and rolls where the "tuna" and "salmon" are made from plants. It's the one I'd book for a fun lunch rather than a formal dinner.

Order: the bottomless sushi (£36 a head for two hours, whole table must order it) or the 20-piece omakase (£34); à la carte, the Crispy & Spicy VTuna roll is £9 for three pieces and the Garden Pad Thai is £15. Spend: about £45 to £50 a head with a drink and the 15% service charge. Book: online, though a few tables are kept for walk-ins. Gluten-free: allergens are marked on the menu, and it caters for any requirement with 48 hours' notice. Tube: Bond Street, 4 minutes. Mildreds Soho

Sit-down comfort food. This is where most vegan meals in London happen: relaxed restaurants with mains around £15 to £23. Mildreds has been cooking meat-free food in Soho since 1988, and today everything it serves is plant-based. It's the easiest recommendation in central London: open from breakfast to late, seven days a week, with five branches if Soho is full.

Order: the kimchi gyoza (£8.50), then the Korean fried chick+n burger (£17.50) or the kiri hodi pilau, a Sri Lankan coconut curry (£19.90); finish with sticky toffee pudding (£10.90). Spend: about £38 a head before drinks. Book: SevenRooms, with some tables held for walk-ins. Gluten-free: ask for the allergen menu; there's also an onion- and garlic-free menu. Tube: Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus, 6 minutes. The catch: Soho is the smallest and busiest branch, so if it's full, walk 15 minutes to Covent Garden.

Mallow Borough Market

Mallow is the best fully vegan meal near the river. It sits on the edge of Borough Market, so it's an easy lunch or dinner after a walk along the South Bank, and it runs from breakfast until 11pm. The menu leans towards plates built for sharing, with a set sharing menu at dinner.

Order: the porcini arroz croquettes (£14), the 'vduja potato gnocchi (£19.50) and the layered tofu makhani (£21). At dinner, the market sharing menu is £42 a head for two or more. Spend: about £40 to £45 a head before drinks. Book: SevenRooms, up to three months ahead, for a two-hour table. Gluten-free: the online menu filters dishes by allergen. Tube: London Bridge, 3 minutes. The catch: there are six steps at the entrance and no ramp.

Unity Diner

Unity Diner in Spitalfields is a vegan diner run as a non-profit: its profits go to Surge Sanctuary, an animal sanctuary charity. The menu is unashamed comfort food, from döner kebabs to tofish and chips, and the Sunday carvery has a following of its own.

Order: the Unity Döner Classic (£14) or the tofish and chips (£18); on Sunday it's carvery only, at £23 a head. Spend: about £35 to £40 a head before drinks, including the 12.5% gratuity. Book: OpenTable, and do book for Sunday. Gluten-free: gluten-free dishes and options are marked on the menu. Tube: Aldgate East, 4 minutes. Tofu Vegan Islington

Tofu Vegan makes 100% vegan Chinese food, and it's the one I'd send you to for dumplings and chilli-oil dishes. The Islington branch on Upper Street has the most Google reviews (4.9 from 3,286), and there are four more branches across London.

Order: Chengdu vegetable dumplings in spicy sauce (£8.50), mouthwatering chick'n in chilli oil (£8.50), and the Peking du'k (£15.80) to share. Spend: about £25 to £30 a head before drinks. Those prices come from its latest published menu, dated January 2025, so expect small rises. Book: online through the website. Gluten-free: allergens, including gluten, are marked on every dish. Tube: Angel, 7 minutes. The catch: its online menu dates from early 2025, so expect prices at the table to be a little higher.

Jam Delish

Jam Delish is a modern vegan Caribbean restaurant near Angel, and it won Best Caribbean Restaurant at the FACT Dining Awards London in 2025. The cooking plays with Caribbean classics: curry "goat", "saltfish" gratin, fried "chicken" with Jamaican gravy. It's a good choice for a lively dinner with friends.

Order: Trinidadian doubles (£13) or the oxtail coco bread (£14) to start, then the curry "goat" (£22) with rice and peas (£7). The caramelised banana cake (£12.50) is the dessert. Spend: about £45 to £50 a head before drinks, with the 12.5% service charge. Book: online through its booking page. Gluten-free: dishes are marked GF. Tube: Angel, 5 minutes. Love Shack

Love Shack is a fully vegan restaurant and bar in a railway arch in Bethnal Green, and it builds its menu around mushrooms. The signature is a lion's mane mushroom steak with chimichurri, sold by weight like a real steak. Non-vegan food isn't allowed on site.

Order: the lion's mane steak (£22 for 6oz, £26 for 8oz, £32 for 12oz), or the hot honey and kimchi chick'n burger (£20); the chocolate mousse with cherry crumble (£9) is gluten-free. Spend: about £42 a head with a side, a beer and dessert, before 12.5% service. Book: OpenTable, via its website. Gluten-free: many mains and all desserts are marked gluten-free. Station: Cambridge Heath (Overground), 2 minutes. Purezza calls itself the largest vegan restaurant in the UK, and its Camden branch is the place for vegan pizza in London. Its Parmigiana Party pizza won the National Pizza of the Year award. Temple of Seitan

Street food and markets. Camden is the easiest part of London to eat vegan on the go. Temple of Seitan makes vegan fried chicken from seitan, a wheat protein, and its FAQ sums up the approach: "100% vegan, 100% of the time". The Camden branch is next door to Purezza on Parkway.

Order: the Temple burger with seitan bacon and ranch mayo, the Nashville hot, or a chick'n bucket to share, with mac 'n' cheese on the side. Spend: prices aren't published online, so check at the counter. Book: you can't; it's walk-in only. Gluten-free: only the fries and coleslaw, because seitan is pure wheat gluten. Book: online, or walk in. Gluten-free: no gluten-free claims; the allergen page says dishes may contain gluten. Tube: Chalk Farm, 7 minutes. Andu Ethiopian Vegan Café

Andu in Dalston calls itself the first vegan Ethiopian restaurant in the UK, and it's the best cheap vegan meal in London. You order a platter of stews (red lentil misir wot, shiro, cabbage and potato) served on injera, the spongy Ethiopian flatbread you tear and eat with your hands. It's a small, family-run cafe on a busy road, not a destination room, and the food is the reason to come.

Order: a small traditional platter (£13, or £15 with teff injera) for one, or a large platter (£32 to £36) for two or three. Spend: £13 to £18 a head. Book: phone before 5.30pm or book through Google (booked tables are £15 a head); walk-ins are fine. Gluten-free: pay the higher price and your injera is made from 100% teff, which is gluten-free. Which vegan restaurant in London, by occasion

A special dinner: Plates for the Michelin-starred tasting menu, Gauthier Soho for French cooking at £65 to £95.

Before or after a West End show: Mildreds in Soho or Covent Garden, Gauthier Soho's Petit Dîner, or 123V in Mayfair.

Near the Tower, Borough Market or the South Bank: Mallow at Borough Market, or Unity Diner in Spitalfields.

A cheap, excellent meal: Andu in Dalston for a £13 platter, Tofu Vegan for £8.50 dumplings, or M'eat The Vegan's in Camden Market.

Gluten-free and vegan: Purezza, Vida Bakery and Cream Dream; Jam Delish, Love Shack and Unity Diner mark gluten-free dishes.

A Sunday roast: the Sunday carvery at Unity Diner (£23). The Spread Eagle in Homerton, which calls itself London's first fully vegan pub, is in our guide to the best Sunday roasts in London.

── also good for vegans

Plant-led, but not 100% vegan

Three well-known names don't make the cut because they serve some animal products. Holy Carrot on Portobello Road is plant-led but its menus include eggs, halloumi and ricotta. Tendril in Mayfair calls itself a "(mostly) vegan kitchen". The Bonnington Cafe in Vauxhall, a community cafe with a different cook each night, serves vegetarian and vegan dishes. All three are good for vegans; just order carefully.

Two more fully vegan stops that are too small for a full entry: Chapter Eight Bakehouse, a plant-based and gluten-free stall on Berwick Street Market in Soho (Wednesdays and Saturdays, brownies £4.95), and Club Mexicana's taco counter in Mercato Mayfair (three tacos for £15).

How eating vegan in London works

Closed for good: London's vegan scene has lost a lot of names since 2024. Google lists Farmacy in Notting Hill, Wulf & Lamb in Chelsea, Club Mexicana at Kingly Court, Mildreds Dalston, Rudy's Vegan Diner in Camden, the Vurger Co, Cafe Van Gogh in Brixton, Kalifornia Kitchen and every London branch of Neat Burger as permanently closed. If an older guide sends you to one, skip it.

Tipping: don't add a tip on top of the service charge. Expect 12.5% at Mildreds, Mallow, Jam Delish, Love Shack and Unity Diner, and 15% at Gauthier Soho and 123V. Menu prices include VAT (sales tax).

Booking: the tasting menus (Plates, Gauthier Soho) need booking well ahead, and Plates releases tables in seasonal batches. Mildreds, Mallow and Unity Diner are worth booking for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Temple of Seitan is walk-in only, and Andu, Cream Dream and M'eat The Vegan's are easy to walk into.

Getting there: every restaurant here is on the Tube, Overground or Elizabeth line. Tap in with a contactless bank card or phone; you don't need a ticket. Camden (Purezza, Temple of Seitan, M'eat The Vegan's) is the best area to eat vegan on the go, and Islington (Tofu Vegan, Jam Delish) is the best for a sit-down dinner.

Picking a base? See where to stay in London; a hotel in Soho or Covent Garden puts Mildreds, Gauthier Soho and Cream Dream a short walk away.
