Book Bocca di Lupo in Soho if you have time for just one Italian dinner in London. Its menu travels Italy region by region, nearly every dish comes as a small or large plate, and the best seats face the kitchen. For pasta on a budget, Padella by Borough Market is the name everyone knows: pici cacio e pepe for £13.50, no bookings. For a celebration, Luca in Clerkenwell has a Michelin star and a cult following for its Parmesan fries.
I've sorted the 17 into four budgets: fresh-pasta bars at roughly £25 to £35 a head, trattorias and neighbourhood rooms, regional specialists (Tuscan, Sicilian, Venetian and more), and special-occasion restaurants. Every card answers the same questions: the dish to order and what it costs, what a meal for one runs to, how hard a table is to get, and which station on the Tube (the subway) to use. A star or Bib Gourmand is mentioned only if it appears in the 2026 Michelin Guide. Prices are from late-September 2026 menus (a sample menu where that is all a restaurant publishes) and include VAT, the UK sales tax. London has no tourist tax yet.
Most of these add a discretionary service charge of 12.5% to 15% to the bill. That covers the tip, so there's nothing more to add. This page is about proper Italian meals, so places that are mainly pizza aren't included. And Locanda Locatelli, which older lists still recommend, has closed.
