If you want one classic London cocktail bar, go to Artesian at The Langham and book a table: a room of purple leather chairs, a menu built around one ingredient per drink, and cocktails mostly £20 to £24. For the most London drink of all, it's a martini poured at your table at Dukes Bar in St James's, walk-in only. And for a night in the East End, A Bar with Shapes for a Name on Kingsland Road made the 2025 World's 50 Best Bars extended list at No. 73, with cocktails at £14.50. For the rest of the trip, my things to do in London guide covers the sights.
The 17 bars below come in three groups: the grand hotel bars, where you pay £20 to £30 for a drink and the room; Soho, the West End and Notting Hill, where the best bars are basements and cost £13 to £25; and the East End neighbourhood bars around Shoreditch and Hackney, where a serious cocktail costs £13 to £18. For each bar you get a signature cocktail and its price from the current menu (Dukes and Happiness Forgets don't list prices online), whether you can book, the dress code where the bar sets one, the hours, and the nearest station on the Tube (the subway) or the Overground. Prices are as of 28 September 2026 and include VAT (sales tax); many bars add a 12.5% to 15% service charge, which is the tip. London has no tourist tax yet.
A few of London's most famous cocktail bars are covered in a different guide. The Connaught Bar (No. 6 on the 2025 World's 50 Best Bars list), Satan's Whiskers (No. 21), Scarfes Bar (No. 31), the American Bar at The Savoy, Nightjar and Swift are all in my best bars in London guide. Tayēr + Elementary on Old Street, No. 5 on that list, is temporarily closed after a fire in its building, with no reopening date announced. And for a cocktail with a view, see my best rooftop bars in London.
